It was never her dream to become an engineer like her brothers and father; left behind to care for her miserable mother, she reluctantly read manuals and learned how to repair household appliances, robots and other bits of technology, until it became apparent to her that she could use her skills to escape her situation. Encouraged by her best friend Murphy, she catapulted herself into an enlisted career, leaving her grim life behind. Forty years on, and with the loss of her beloved friend Murphy, she takes an offer to commission and start anew——though droplets of the life she left behind begin to reemerge.
