The '''Jahardin''' (pronounced JA-har-DEEN) are an insectoid race standing taller than the average human, at about 230 cm tall, hailing from the [[Par'tha Expanse]]. Predominant features of the Jahardin include their very large multi-faceted eyes, and their pincer-like hands. Despite being insectoid, the Jahardin only have four legs, two of which are used as arms, as the entire race is bipedal. Their speech is a series of clicking sounds, and due to physical restraints they are unable to mimic vocal patterns of most other humanoids. All verbal communication with the Jahardin must go through a translator. The Jahardin wear loose fitting, high collared robes, whose colors have a metallic sheen to them.

History

The Jahardin were encountered by the crew of the USS Atlantis on stardate 238207.26 whilst on an away mission to Urlista Station in the Aelann system.

Government

As one could surmise from their insectoid nature, the Jahardin use a collective governmental structure, with all major decisions being made by a council of elder females, headed by the Queen. This is known as the Jahardin Dynasty.

Description

The Jahardin stand taller than the average Human, at about 230cm tall. Predominant features include their very large multi-faceted eyes, and their pincer-like hands.

Physiology

Young are hatched from eggs, and usually several hundred eggs will be laid at one time. Newly hatched larvae develop into functional individuals within their first year. The average lifespan is approximately 12 earth years.

Psychology

Typical of their insectoid nature, Jahardin males are far more populous than females, with the females in the more prestigious, less hazardous lines of work.

The Jahardin are slightly xenophobic, and prefer to keep to themselves as much as possible. Yet often their curiosity of other races involves them in interstellar politics. They will join groups and organizations simply to keep tabs on the other races, and will try not to get involved if they can help it. Other races tend to view the Jahardin as "distant."
