| Most experts believe that they are an offshoot of the Lenarians. Almost certainly an ancient lost colony but with enough differences to be considered distinct. One of these is their language which barely contains certain indications that it may be a variant or sub-dialect of Lenarian.

| Their earliest records date from approximately 1853 when a meteor shower destroyed their world. However based on the data retrieved by a Federation science team the only meteor shower to hit their world during that time period hit a large peninsular, causing catastrophic damage. Since then the peninsular has shattered and dropped below the surface of the ocean. Records would seem to indicate that this occurred less than a hundred years after the meteor shower.

| The survivors migrated approximately 400 kilometers to a wide sheltered valley with a large river running down to a bay. Here they rebuilt. Evidently enough technology was recovered that their progression was not hindered that much.

|
| |
| By 2000 they had a capitol city with over 10,000 people and had expanded to occupy almost ¼ of the total usable farm land on the island they occupied.
| |
|
| |
| By 2100 they had managed to place a small satellite into orbit and had major colonies on every large island or continent on the planet.
| |
|
| |
| By 2200 they had crude vessels capable of travel within their system and had expanded across most of their world.
| |
|
| |
| By 2300 they had warp technology and had a number of mining facilities on other planets and moons within their system. As a result of the fact that a large percentage of their people worked for and lived within Federation colonies or facilities they were granted membership within the Federation in 2302.

| | ==History== |
| | Almost certainly an ancient lost colony, but different enough to be distinct from their better-known brethern, the Kotakians were once part of the Lenarian race. |

| ==Description== | | ==Description== |
| They appear quite similar to most Caucasian humanoids except with violet or blue hair. They have a wide range of body shapes, height, weight and eye color. | | With dark skin and wide-spaced, black eyes, the Kotakians sport a tall, thin ridge that starts at their chin and runs up over the top of their head, to end at the base of their skull. This ridge is tallest on the top of their head, being on average between 3 to 7 inches. They are related to the Lenarian species, sharing various similarities between the two species. However, the Kotakians grow hair, ranging from violet to blue in colour. |
|
| | |
| ==Physiology== | | ==Physiology== |
| As with most intelligent humanoid species they have a very complex system with specialized organs, and unique hormones, chemicals and enzymes. They are typical humanoids with most of the physical, mental and biological medical problems that seem to plague most humanoids.
| |
|
| |
|
| They are believed to be some kind of offshoot of the Lenarians and the basis for this is their DNA which is almost a perfect match. Added to this is the simple medical fact that their anatomy and physiology are almost identical to that of the Lenarians. The few differences that do exist between them can easily be shown to be the result of gradual change over time due to radically different environmental influences.

| |
|
| ==Psychology==
| |
| They are a very hardy people, one use to hardship and hard work. A large proportion of their population is capable of working for long periods of time in primitive conditions with no outside contact with no adverse mental health effects.
| |
|
| |
| This does not mean they are immune to various forms of mental issues such as phobias, paranoia or isolation problems. Simply that they suffer from few cases of them. Unfortunately when one of them does become sick with one of these they usually have to be shipped home and they almost never leave their world again.
| |
|
| |
| ==Religion== | | ==Religion== |
| They have no religious beliefs of any kind.
| | |
|
| |
| ==Mythology== | | ==Mythology== |
| They have absolutely no ancient written records of any kind and what few records remain from the 1850’s are mostly birth, death, production and crop reports.
| | |
|
| |
| ==Society== | | ==Society== |
| Most of their communities are fairly basic with adequate infrastructure and minimal recreational facilities. Medical and educational facilities run the gamut from excellent to useless depending on the community.
| | Small in number, most Kotakians serve in mining, cargo transport or passenger service. |
|
| | |
| ==Culture== | | ==Culture== |
| While they have always had a deep and passionate love of music in many different forms they never really developed any true artistic forms of expression. Even now after many years of almost constant daily contact with other species only a small minority of them have developed any kind of appreciation for these other forms of art.
| | |
|
| |
| ==Customs== | | ==Customs== |
| For them the family comes first then the community. Everyone will work to provide for their families first and them to their communities. Most experts agree that this is typical of many civilizations that were almost destroyed by one means or another and were only able to survive by working together for the benefit of all of them.
| | |
|
| |
| For them one’s word is their bond. If one of them gives you his word that he will do something, that is more binding to them than any legal contract. However they realize that most other species do not have this same belief. As a result they will demand written contracts from anyone who has not earned this level of trust.
| |
|
| |
| ==Technology== | | ==Technology== |
| They are considered to be barely qualified to be designated as a species with N level technology.
| | |
|
| |
| ==Economy==
| |
| A surprising number of them work in various different mining facilities, both on worlds, moons and on asteroids. On top of this is the surprising fact that even more of them work in cargo transport or passenger service. As a result almost a quarter of their total population works off world within the Federation.
| |
|
| |
| Their cargo ships are designed to be served and operated by small crews, typically less than 10 individuals. They have 5 different kinds. One of which is strictly a passenger vessel while only two of the others have the ability to transport people.

|
| |
| ==Military== | | ==Military== |
| They have never had or needed any military but during the Dominion War large numbers of them enlisted to serve as members of Starfleet and the Marines. Since then they have had a constant presence within both of these services.
