History
History
Long ago, when they lived in small groups they started to compete and fight with one another for the best hunting grounds and farming areas. As time passed the groups grew bigger but the infighting continued. This is the origin of the family as an individual political entity with everyone being related with in a group, working together and fighting to protect what they had from other families.
Due to the geography of their world, Rasiinian populations were wide spread and had access to ample farmland and water without having to compete for them. Unfortunately, it also resulted in a slower development of advanced technologies and population expansion.

Over time these families became larger and evolved into the current clan system with them controlling entire regions with cities, towns, villages and all of the resources with in those areas under their control.  Border conflicts were semi-constant and numerous small wars were fought. This continued for more than 2,500 years until the advance of technology made warfare less of a sport and more of a danger to their continued existence.
This had the positive result of limiting any aggressive or confrontational encounters between different regions. While it did not completely eliminate the possibility of border disputes and conflict it did greatly limit the number and severity of these contacts. As a result they managed to slowly blend together into a single unified species shortly after they developed the technology that allowed them to travel anywhere on their world.

A few of the more progressively minded clans realized that continued conflict with their new advanced weaponry could result in massive casualties, atrocities and possible planetary damage. They banded together and came to an agreement that would eventually result in the creation of the council.
Time passed and ideas were exchanged between regions, technology and scientific advancements now progressed at a more standard speed. This allowed them to support larger populations on less land and to improve the overall quality of life for the majority of their population.

They approached other clans. Some found the idea intriguing and joined while others refused. Those clans that refused were destroyed, every single individual including women and children were eliminated. With this as an incentive fewer and fewer clans declined and after lengthy negotiations joined the council.
As they progressed past the industrial age, they realized that if they did not alter their means of producing power and manufacturing of goods that they would soon start to adversely affect their planets eco-system. This idea of global pollution damaging their world caused them to alter their search for new ideas and concentrate on finding new and improved ways of supplying their society with power and goods.

This was by no means a quick fix to their problems but after almost 500 years of struggle, strife, constant back stabbing and arguing they had a unified planetary wide government which guaranteed that each clan received the same, equal representation.
With time they were able to find solutions to these problems and were able to switch over before any long range or even noticeable damage could have been done to their world and its ecology.

As a result of this new co-operation between them a new system was evolved to replace warfare as a means of solving border disputes or any other inter-clan squabbles.
Eventually they advanced to the point where they were able to send ships into space. They explored their system, established a colony on the 3rd planet and encountered their first alien species : the Proxcinian's. This encounter convinced them that they would need to arm their space craft and to develop weapons systems for their defense.

Eventually they developed the technology to allow them to explore space. At first it was merely a hobby of the more powerful, wealthier clans. Another way to compete among themselves to prove which one of them was the best. However when they discovered the existence of other species it changed everything.
Over the next 50 years, great advances were discovered that allowed them to construct a vast number of defensive satellites which were placed into orbit around not only their home world but their colony as well. They also developed a military program and trained their very first soldiers.

Their was much debate on the council and numerous radical ideas of how to deal with this new information. In the end they selected to observe and put more effort into technology that they could use to defend themselves with if the need arose. Eventually they built warships and only then did they continue to explore the universe around them.
Now that they had warships, armed freighters and the trained crews to best use these new vessels they returned to their exploration of space. They encountered more species and established a number of colonies in distant systems. During this time they had few armed conflicts but what ones they did have seemed to be against raiders and pirates more than they were against aggressive alien species.

Finding a number of planets capable of sustaining life they established colonies, made contact with other species and in the process fought a few small wars, coming out of them slightly better off than they went into them.
In 2368 the Rasiinian colony of Quasivi III was assimilated by the Borg with the loss of over 9 million citizens.

In 2336 the Borg attacked and assimilated their largest colony on Tivila V. Over 1.8 million people were lost.
During the Dominion War they tried to remain neutral but this effort failed. As a result they lost two more colonies to attack by the Breen and to the Jem'Hadar. They lost the majority of their warships in a series of ongoing attacks and were forced to withdraw the last shattered remnants of their fleet to their home system.

During the Dominion War they lost two more colonies to attack by the Breen and to the Jem’hadar.
A large scale invasion of their system was planned by the Breen but failed to occur as it was intercepted by a joint Federation, Klingon and Romulan battle fleet. It was only after the end of the war that the target of the Breen fleet was discovered.

Since then they have maintained a strictly neutral status and rebuilt their fleet back up to fighting strength.

While not true xenophobes they do tend to not trust most other species and even those they have constant contact with are always watched in case they try to pull a fast one on them. This inability to trust anyone not from their own clan can also affect their ability to work with others of their own species.
They have always been slightly xenophobic but this may be more due to the fact that they have had more unpleasant first encounters with more species than one would expect. Most experts believe it is more a case of a bad first impression that seems to escalate quickly due to their prickly pride and their failure to overcome this initial impression.

Religion
Religion
Over time their different beliefs have slowly merged together to form a single planet wide union with a pantheon of gods and goddesses, one for each and every clan. In fact the symbol of each clan is a reflection of their own clan god or goddess.
They do not believe in any religion or have any profound spiritual beliefs. Instead they believe that the universe was born and that things just happened after that. The development of intelligent species is merely a natural side effect of the universe growing old.

Mythology
Mythology
There are numerous tales, myths and legends with most of them involving the various different gods and goddesses that they believe in. However every clan has their own interpretation of each and every myth with their own personal clam god or goddess being portrayed in the best light and all the others coming off as a pale watered down version of their own.
They have few stories that could be considered true legends or myths. However they do have a large data base of historically accurate stories detailing the way of life and slow development of their primitive to early ancestors.

Society
Society
Each clan controls and rules its own lands, cities and resources. As a result each clan area will reflect the beliefs and competency of their leaders.
As a people their cities and communities are well planned, well laid out and adequately provided for with infrastructure and amenities available to all. Crime is almost unheard of and emergency services operate quickly and efficiently. However their cities lack any sort of character or individual charm being merely places that they live and work in.

While Krahan was originally created as a means of solving clan disputes with out having to resort to active warfare it has long since evolved into the sporting craze that it currently is. Games are broadcast world wide and beamed off world to all of their colonies.

Culture
Culture
While they enjoy music and most other forms of artistic expression it is the sport of Krahan that truly captures everyone’s interest. Each and every clan has at least one team and some of the larger, more prosperous clans may have as many as 5 or 6.
The Rasiinian people have little interest in the artistic accomplishments of other species and do not seem to appreciate any form of music, considering such to be pointless noise. Visual art forms that they produce tend to be considered by other species to be crude, uninteresting and rudimentary with clashing color schemes and the illogical use of color palettes, lines and forms.

Each team has 133 players dressed in protective gear and carrying a 6’ staff with the last 2’ on both ends being padded. This is a very physical sport and injuries are not uncommon with broken bones and other tissue damage. In some cases this will result in a fatality.

They play on a large field that has a large number of obstacles. These obstacles come in a variety of shapes, composition and sizes and no two fields are ever the same. The object of the game is to break through the other team’s guards and capture the other team’s flag, a staff with the emblem of the clan fixed to the top of it.

Customs
At the age of majority each and every single citizen has the symbol of their clan burned into both forearms. This marks them for life as a member of their clan.
Marriages are arranged by the families and the bride and groom never meet until the day of their wedding. These are simple affairs with the two sharing a meal while being observed by their respective families who chant a traditional litany of expectations regarding the couple and their future.

The greatest punishment any one of them can suffer is to be banished from their clan. This involves burning their clan brand permanently off of both forearms and then shipping them off world.

Technology
Technology
While not as advanced as the Federation they do spend a lot on research and are not adverse to trading for new technology or buying it from any source regardless of the legalities involved in the deal.
They do not trade, discuss or encourage inquiries into their technological abilities, level of accomplishment or research programs. They also seem to be completely uninterested in the accomplishments of other species.

Economy
Economy
They have developed a number of long term trade partners and are always looking for more. As a result they have a fairly adequate quality of life but know that it could be improved.
While they are mostly self-sufficient they have been able to establish a number of long term trade deals. In most cases these are for raw resources and essential materials needed to keep their economy functioning at a safe level.

Military
Military
Each clan has their own troops and war ships. In the past they would have been used as part of the constant infighting between the different families. Those days are now a long distant memory.
Prior to their contact with hostile space craft they never had any warships. Since then they have designed and built a number of ship classes. Their current fleet consists of 1 dreadnaught which was added after the end of the Dominion War, 4 heavy cruisers, 10 light cruisers, 15 destroyers and 20 frigates.

Now each of the larger clans is required by law to maintain 1 heavy cruiser and 2 destroyers while the smaller clans are required by law to maintain 1 light cruiser and 2 frigates. The cost of building, maintain and outfitting each ship as well as the training of its crew must be paid for by the clan to whom the vessel belongs. However only the clan to which the vessel belongs may decide in what way the ship will be used.

In 2372, Ambassador Runepp traveled to Deep Space 9 aboard a Bajoran transport. The mysterious Onaya also came to the station aboard the vessel.

The Borg had encountered and assimilated Rasiinians prior to 2373, as indicated by the image of one which would later appear during one of Seven of Nine's guilt-induced hallucinations.
