Their history is one of war. So much so that it became an intricate part of their lives and culture. It was only when they learned that their was other intelligent life forms in the galaxy that they came together and managed to form a lasting peace. This peace has now lasted over 250 years. 
The incident that resulted in this radical change for them was the crash of an alien cruiser. It crashed leaveing behind it a streak of flames in the night sky that could be seen for miles. Then upon impact with the ground the sound and shockwaves awoke any who had still been asleep within a 25 miles radius.
The first group to reach the crash site was a hunting party. They were attacked by a few survivors. However the Arcadians were able to rally and fought back. The end result was the death of every single [[Nausicaan]] survivor on the alien ship.

The first and original form of government which is still in use involves each clan being lead by a tribunal of 3 elders. This position is for life and the elders can be both male or female. Typically it is made up of 2 males and 1 female.


Since the creation of the '''Lasting Peace''' they have a new government which represents all their people. Each clan is allowed to send 1 individual to serve on a planetary council which debates and votes on all issues that affect the people and their world. This is also a lifetime position.

The Arcadian species are humanoids with dark indigo skin and stand on average 6' to 6'6". They are a warrior people and tend to be extremely athletic. The females are more slightly built than the men but are still in excellent physical condition.


The only hair that they have is eyebrows and a single mohawk like strip of hair that starts high on their forehead and runs back over the top of their heads and ends below their shoulder blades. Their hair is a dark shade of blue and the mohawk is only an inch wide but stands up to 1 foot from the top of their heads.


They wear knee high leather boots and sturdy pants usually dark in color. The men wear a pair of crisscrossing dark leather belts that go from shoulder to hip and serve them as a weapons harness. The females wear the same but with a wide strip of cloth that circles their chest to both support and protect their chests.

They tend to be fairly athletic as a species and overweight Arcadians are unheard of. They have most of the same kinds of medical problems as most other humanoid species. They also tend to be stronger than they look. On average they have twice the strength of a athletic human of the same size.

They are a stoic people but one that enjoys life. Around strangers they will maintain a cool, unemotional front. Otherwise they tend to smile and laugh the same as most other races. They seem to be fairly well adjusted with few know cases of mental problems.


They can be prone to violent berzerker rages, fortunately these are not that common any more. While in the grips of one of these rages they will completely ignor any and all injuries.

They worship a trinity of gods. Arca is a male god of hunting, the weather and nature. His wife, Dian is the female goddess of fertility, prosperity and survival. The last one is Cadi who is Dian's brother and the male god of war, craftwork and learning.

They have a large and colorful set of legends and myths. Most have to do with individuals who excelled at one task or another. In fact there are just as many good stories regarding aspects of all 3 gods as there are stories about heroic battles.

Honour is the backbone on which they as a species have developed. Personnel, clan and racial honour in that order are the most important aspects of their lives. As a result they are extremely polite and make an effort to understand the customs and social graces used by those races they interact with.


An insult of any kind can only be answered in one way. A fight to the death.

They have an intricate system of dance and song like story telling that is used to teach lessons and convey historical data. Celebrations of any kind will also include long hours of dance. Their music is a wild throb of melody that can be felt and that inspires.

They have a number of customs in regards to one on one fights. These fights follow a very strict set of rules. First of all is the '''Ad'een''' which is a fight useing non-leathal weapons and can be used as a method of teaching or training. It is also used at clan gathering as a form of physical contest. Next is the '''Ad'ee''' which is a fight useing leathal weapons but ends as soon as first blood has been drawn. Last of all is '''Ad'D''' a fight to the death.

Prior to the crash they were an industrial people who tended to prefer the simpler things. No noticable pollution. After the crash they studied the technology found on the destroyed vessel and were quickly able to figure it out. At this point they converted the technology to their own use.


They altered and improved on much of the tech. Their cities are now powered by non-polluteing high efficency power generation stations. They have a planet wide mass transit system that is non-polluteing and energy efficent.


Their weapons still appear to be archaic but are anything but. They use bolo's, bows and bladed weapons. They improved on these useing the alien tech and subsequent advances they made on their own. The blades are virtually unbreakable and never need to be sharpened. The arrows for the bows are high tech marvels with the ability to lock onto a target. Varied payloads make the arrows very versatile. The bolo's are similar with each of the 3 balls able to perform a different function. Activateing one will make all 3 work the same way. These are explosive, stun charge or light burst.

Since takeing to the stars they have established trade with a few races but prefer to only establish dealings with races they consider to be honourable. They will not trade away any of their weapons tech or metalurgy secrets.

Antarans have been at war with the Denobulans several times, the last conflict of which took place in the 19th century. However Antarans continued to strongly dislike Denobulans until at least the 2150s, even though encounters between the two species were extremely rare. This behavior is due to widespread prejudices, as every Antaran is taught from childhood that all Denobulans are enemies, to be feared and reviled.

The 19th century dating is derived from Phlox's statement that they had not been at war for 300 years, in 2153. Hudak's statement that he was the first Antaran to see a Denobulan in six generations is most likely exaggerated, since it seems not uncommon for both species to travel to other planets. The Antaran homeworld is quite far from Xantoras, and it would be rare to see one that far away from home. (ENT: "The Breach")
