Like many Vulcans, Sovek spent much of her early life in pursuit of logic in reason. She has been recognized for exceptional achievement in several fields including quantum physics and subspace theory. Six years ago, however, her life took a remarkable turn when, while visiting Earth, she suffered a massive brain infection brought on by exposure to an experimental medical treatment. This infection caused her emotions to wildly fluctuate, giving rise to fits of violent temper, self-destructive depression, and uncontrollable visceral urges. During one of these episodes she escaped the medical facility where she was being held. While at liberty she witnessed an accident in which a child named Jenny Wilks was fatally injured. In an effort to comfort the dying child she preformed a Vulcan mind meld. During their melded state Jenny's body died and her consciousness entered Sovek. The presence of a second mind allowed Sovek to stabilize her irrational state. The two became integrated, and remain so to this day, although in most situations Sovek keeps Jenny submerged.
While this dual state initially worried Starfleet Medical, it rapidly became clear that the two personalities, although integrated in some ways, remained essentially two individuals. Sovek, as the elder personality, remained in charge. But she still maintains contact with Jenny's parents, whenever she can.
If anything, since the accident Sovek's performance has improved. Her theory is that the presence of the child has provided a new perspective on emotion and its positive aspects. This integration has made Sovek highly interested in human culture, especially time periods where the human race was learning to overcome its baser instincts and use positive emotions to great benefit. She has acquired a great deal of material on the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, and is fond of media from the time, including films and music.
Occasionally, during private moments with people she trusts, she will allow Jenny to the surface, becoming humorous, playful, and sometimes even flirty. Sovek has noted that Jenny's consciousness appears to be maturing, and what effect this may have on their integration is unknown.
Personality & Appearance:
Often, Sovek is a conundrum to those she meets; a Vulcan with a curiously accurate, if sometimes childish, view of humanity. Most Vulcans have either given up, or never attempted, to try to understand human behavior. Sovek has a very firm grasp of it. She understands humor, and has even been caught telling jokes from time to time. Although no one has ever heard her laugh, she has come close, and she has smiled on many occasions. Her long black hair frames her 173 cm, 61 kg body nicely, but her steel blue eyes are out of place on a Vulcan. Records indicate that Sovek was born with brown eyes, but that Jenny Wilks had steel blue eyes.
Idiosyncrasies:
Probably due to the influence of Jenny, Sovek's hobbies include drawing and "flirting". Jenny would be entering her middle teen years if her body had survived. Sovek also is often found playing kal-toh or meditating. She is thoroughly grounded in half a dozen scientific fields and mathematics.
