History
Sariel grew up on the colony of New Australia with his parents and brother. His mother and father were both specialists in the biology of the jungles of New Australia. As such Sariel spent much of his youth trekking through the jungles of New Australia, cataloging and analyzing the various undiscovered plants and animals there. His parents mostly shunned staying in major cities for more than a few weeks and so much of Sariels initial education was provided to him by his parents and the PADD they provided him for standardized lessons. Sariel's parents found that he had a ferocious appetite for knowledge and soon had learned anything the PADD was able to teach him.
After a series of discussions and long arguments Sariel finally managed to convince his parents that his education demanded that he spend some time at the University of Sereptia. During his time there Sariel focused on the Biological Sciences and their various applications. He graduated with a Bachelors in Biochemistry and a Masters in Cellular Processes and Genetics. Sariel then enrolled in Starfleet Academy to become a science officer.
During his time both in the University of Sereptia, and Starfleet Academy Sariel studied martial arts and self defense. He also spent at least an hour a day in the gym at both institutions. This wasn't due to any desire to stay fit or learn to defend himself but simply from a level of stir craziness. In the jungles Sariel and his parents were always on the move and so the switch to a sedentary lifestyle of a student did not suit him well.
While Sariel's parents do not understand his choice to leave New Australia they none the less accept that his life is his to lead. Sariel's brother, Michael, on the other hand took Sariel's departure very hard and the two have been cool towards one another ever since.
