Standard Equipment
The team's standard equipment includes:
Type-2 Hand Phaser
Phaser is an acronym for PHASed Energy Rectification. This sidearm is commonly used by all Starfleet personnel in both security matters and on away missions. The Phaser emits an energy beam that knocks out a target and continually recharges itself. It can fire either a narrow beam, or a wide area beam, the latter using up more weapon energy.
Compression Phaser Rifle
On more hazardous missions, Starfleet officers carry the Compression Rifle as a greater source of firepower. The rifle fires pulses of a similar but more powerful type to the Phaser in a tight beam. The Compression Rifle also fires more concentrated projectiles, requiring more energy but inflicting more damage to a target.
Field Tricorder
The Field Tricorder is a handheld scanning device and is common issue among Starfleet Hazard Team personnel. It used for a variety of functions, some of which are listed below.
- Scanning for life forms: When selected, the Tricorder interlinks with the Hazard Team's newly developed contact lenses and displays a small radar screen, indicating all life forms in the vicinity.
- Interlinking with computer systems: The Tricorder can interlink with most known computer systems, allowing the user to activate or deactive subsystems that would be inaccessible otherwise.
- Infrared overlay: This function comes in handy when the team operates in dark areas. When activated, the overlay makes it incredibly easy to locate enemiesm even when it is pitch black.
- Structural integrity overlay: This overlay displays the structural integrity of selected objects in order to locate weaknesses. This function is generally used when the team is trying to infiltrate a facility without taking the main entrance.
- Trace gas overlay: With the help of this overlay, it is possible to navigate around hazardous gases that may be invisble to the naked eye.
- Interlink with orbiting ships: In this mode, the Tricorder interlinks with the weapons systems of an orbiting Federation starship. It can then be used to paint targets, allowing for precise tactical strikes.
Specialist Equipment
Other Federation weapons in the hazard team's complement include:
Enhanced Compression Rifle
A recent upgrate to the Compression Rifle, the new and improved version sports a higher rate and more rapid bursts of fire than it's predecessor. The Enhanced Compression Rifle is also equipped with a nose mounted micro grenade launcher for a more concentrated shot, making it more suitable for some Hazard Team missions.
Federation Assault Rifle
Designed by the Hazard Team after their return to Earth, the new Federation Assault Rifle proves to be a more effective short range weapon than the Compression Rifle and therefore is the weapon of choice in close quarters combat. With more of a shotgun feel, the Assault Rifle does heavy damage at close range, but is less effective at longer distances.
Compound Grenade Launcher
Enhanced by Federation engineers since Voyager's return to Earth, the weapon still features time delayed grenades released by the primary fire. Furthermore, the grenades from the weapon can be layed so they are only triggered when an enemy target enters their range, or until remotley triggered by the weapon carrier.
Photon Burst Launcher
The Photon Burst is a heavy weapon rarely used in the Federation as it fires highly powerful and energy costing micro Photon Torpedoes, a smaller type than the ones used in starship defense. Aimed at a target, it will almost certainly vaporise them, while aiming at the ground proves to be an effective wide area effect on multiple targets.
Quantum Burst Launcher
Possibly the Federation's most powerful sidearm, the Quantum Burst is an upgraded weapon based on the original Photon Burst, enhanced to utilize micro Quantum Torpedoes, the most powerful weaponry currently used on fleet starships. The weapon also features a remote guidance system, where the torpedoes can be guided by laser sight.
Sniper Rifle
The Federation Snipe Rifle has the typical features of such a weapon. It fires a single, almost instant shot from long range to quickly take out targets at a far away distance. The weapon also features a targeting scope to zoom in on a distant object in order to get a clear shot and a good aim on the target.
Infinity Modulator - (I-MOD)
One of the greatest tactical advantages of Borg Drones is the ability to adapt to the modulations alien weaponry, making them useless. To combat this, Voyager crewman Seven of Nine designed the Infinity Modulator (or I-Mod), which infinitly changes the modulation of the weapon so that the Borg cannot adapt.
Other Weapons Encountered
Starfleet are currently conducting research into weapons that Hazard Teams have encountered, these include:
Tetryon Pulse Disruptors
Originally of Klingon design, this Tetryon Gatling Gun was picked up by Lieutenant Munro aboard the Mercenary Starbase. As will all gatling guns, the weapon fires from multiple fast-recharge chambers and requires large amounts of energy in continuous fire. The weapon can also fire a tetryon pulse that bounces off surfaces to reach a target, or will eventually dissipate.
Tetryon Gatling Gun - Hirogen
Possibly of Hirogen design, the Tetryon Gatling Gun was used by the Hirogen Alpha aboard the Scavenger Base. This wide area effect gun fires rotating rapid pulses at enemy targets, whilst the alternative fire is a single pulse that can deflect off objects until it hits a target or it's energy dissipates in transport.
Tetryon Gatling Gun - Klingon
Originally of Klingon design, this Tetryon Gatling Gun was picked up by Lieutenant Munro aboard the Mercenary Starbase. As will all gatling guns, the weapon fires from multiple fast-recharge chambers and requires large amounts of energy in continuous fire. The weapon can also fire a tetryon pulse that bounces off surfaces to reach a target, or will eventually dissipate.
Etherian Stasis Weapons
A mysterious weapon found aboard the Etherian ship, the Stasis Weapon mimics the technology behind the stasis system the Etherians use aboard their ship. The primary fire of the weapon fires a pulse which can 'freeze' a target in stasis for a short period, and after repeated hits, will die. The secondary fire emits five seperate pulses, having the same effect.
Scavenger Rifle
A product of combined technology by the Scavengers, the Scavenger Rifle fires rapid pulses of energy at a target from medium to short range. A more energy costly alternative fire of the rifle are energy grenades, a wide area shot that is capable of knocking out multiple targets without the need for precise accuracy.
Romulan Disruptor
Widely used by soldiers and guards of the Romulan Star Empire, the hand held disruptor is the continuation of their weapon technology used on starships. A similar unit to the phaser in terms of usage and it's rechargable energy source, the secondary fire mode of the weapon allows for a build-up of avaliable weapon energy to fire one powerful burst at a target.
Romulan Experimental Radiation Disruptor
Designed and developed by the Romulan Tal Shiar, little is known about this experimental weapon based on the original Disruptor technology. On firing, the Radiation Disruptor fills an area with deadly radiation, causing damage to any targets nearby who pass through it before it has dissipated.
Dreadnought Arc Welder
Primarily designed as a energy repair and maintenence tool, the Arc Welder was found aboard the Dreadnought Gunship and proved to be an effective weapon in rendering targets unconcious, either by using the less powerful, tighter primary fire or the more powerful wider area effect of the secondary fire.
Attrexian Arc Launcher
The Attrexians use the Arc Launcher as their primary hand-held weapon, and features two distinct fire modes. Activating the secondary fire mode will release a gas cloud into the surrounding area, which can be ignited by the energy bolt of the primary fire for devastating area effect damage.
Idryll Energy Staff
Located among the Idryll ruins by the Hazard Team, the close range weapon fires either a bolt of energy at a target, or spreads it from the source, causing wide area damage, even to the carrier. Little is known about the origins or initial purpose of this weapon.
