| Cain: You mentioned that your an astrobiologist. Is that a bit like
| | ''' Ensign Ian Lane West, Coffee and Chat''' |
| xenobiology?

|
| |
|
| West: Yes and more so No. I do have credits in Xenobiology and have taken
| |
| more than the required classes from the Academy but Astrobiology is a
| |
| different field all together. Astrobiology is the study of the origin,
| |
| evolution, distribution, and future of extraterrestrial life of other
| |
| worlds. Xenobiology and Exobiology is similar but more specific to just
| |
| there scope, where as Astrobiology steps over the two and puts them and a
| |
| few other under one roof if you will. I am sure I have just told you more
| |
| than you ever wanted to know about the field of Astrobiology and I barley
| |
| even touched on it. ::Smiling::

| Cain: Where ever you feel most comfortable working is absolutely fine by me.
| |
| I will look forward to reading the report.

| :: Ian was just about to step away when he noticed a tall male in Red with 4 | | [[Category:Ian West]] |
| gold pips walk up next to him and the much shorter first officer. ::
| |
| | |
| | |
| Kells: That was the shortest red alert I've ever heard. I trust you got it
| |
| under control, Arden?
| |
| | |
| | |
| Cain: Yes Sir it's all under control now. A false alarm.
| |
| | |
| | |
| Kells: What happened?
| |
| | |
| | |
| Cain: One of Doctor Velana's patients was under the impression that there
| |
| were Borg on board the Mercury. Appearantly he suffered some kind of head
| |
| injury.
| |
| | |
| | |
| Kells: Then it's nothing Velana can't handle.
| |
| | |
| | |
| :: The Captain paused and looked at Ian for a moment before speaking.::
| |
| | |
| | |
| Kells: Who're you, Ensign?
| |
| | |
| | |
| West: I am Dr. Ian Lane West, I am an Astrobiologist and your new Science
| |
| Officer sir.
| |
| | |
| | |
| Kells: Thank the Architect. I wondered when you were going to arrive.
| |
| Tell me you're ready to go; we need a science officer prepped and ready.
| |
| | |
| | |
| West: As a matter of fact I am sir, I was sent some data to get myself up to
| |
| speed with on my trip to Starbase 118. I am as ready as they come sir. I
| |
| was a Warrant Officer in Star Fleet before going to the Academy so it is
| |
| nice to be working back in space and with real equipment and not just
| |
| holodecks and training labs sir. ::Giving the Captain a wide smile and a
| |
| slight nod of the head.::
| |
| | |
| | |
| Kells: Excellent. Ard-- Lieutenant Commander Cain and I were both chief
| |
| science officers once upon a time, so if you have any questions, you ask us,
| |
| all right?
| |
| | |
| | |
| Cain: The Captain is right, I doubt there is anyone else on the ship that
| |
| knows the job and the department, here on the Mercury, then we do.
| |
| | |
| West: That is good to know sir, but I will do my best to keep the dog off
| |
| your lawns sirs.
| |
| | |
| | |
| Kells: Very good. (beat, gruffer) You'll monitor the USS Triumphant leaving
| |
| the area, Arden, as well as the departure of a shuttlecraft back to 118. We
| |
| had a short visit from Captains Reynolds and Nicholotti. They gave me this.
| |
| | |
| | |
| Wulfantine: Congratulations Sir.
| |
| | |
| | |
| Cain: Congratulations Captain Kells. I honestly can't say how much you truly
| |
| deserve it Sir.
| |
| | |
| | |
| West: ::Ginning:: I am sure it was well earned sir. I look forward to
| |
| serving under you.
| |
| | |
| | |
| Kells: Thank you. (stage whisper) Don't let anyone throw a party.
| |
| (actual whisper) But make sure it's good. And, really, wait until the
| |
| councilor and her guests have disembarked.
| |
| | |
| | |
| Cain: By the time word gets around I won't have much a say in whether or not
| |
| a party will occur. ::Smiling:: But it will most certainly take place after
| |
| this whole Klingon/Romulan affair is done with.
| |
| | |
| | |
| Kells: How do we stand, incidentally? Has Lieutenant Commander Rahman
| |
| checked in? If everything's in order, I'd like to get going.
| |
| | |
| | |
| ::As the Captain and the first officer discuss mission details, Ian slips
| |
| quietly past them and walks over to the science station to log his self into
| |
| the ships data base. Before making it to the station he turned back and
| |
| smiled at the scene going on around him. It was nice to be back in the
| |
| Science seat again and doing work that mattered.::

| |
| Twenty Four Alpha.
| |
| | |
| | |
| Computer: Welcome about Science Officer West.
| |
| | |
| | |

| |
| uplink to his new quarters computer station.::
