A humanoid race from the Tellun star system with a reputation for being vicious and arrogant. Concluded a long interplanetary war a century ago and have a since become Federation members. Their technology has come from primitive limited interplanetary travel during the war to moderate interstellar capability. Elasian males are often well over 2 meters tall and their females have a unique neurochemical drug in their tears that makes humanoid males obey their will.

History
In the 22nd century, the Elasians developed interplanetary travel, before or around the same time as the neighbouring Troyians. As soon as the two races became aware of one another, relations esculated into rivalry and quickly into war.
The complete story of how the war began was still being pieced together by historians and diplomats of the late 23rd century. The battles were fought with relatively crude interplanetary spacecraft, lasers and atomic weapons, all in a major interplanetary war for control over the Tellun system.
The war continued on into the mid-23rd century. Both powers made contact with the Federation in 2258, and soon after became members, but continued to skirmish with each other. By this time, the Troyians had managed to fight the Elasians to a draw.
A period of Elasian-Troyian interplanetary war intersected with the Federation-Klingon Cold War in the 23rd century. By 2268, both the Federation and the Klingon Empire considered the Tellun system to reside within their respective borders. The Federation sought an end to the internal conflict and served as a mediator between Elasians and Troyians, while Klingons tried to subvert the peace efforts.
In 2268, the Council of Nobles and Troyius's Troyius Tribunal jointly agreed that Petri, a Troyian ambassador, should teach Dohlman Elaan about Troyian customs prior to her wedding to Troyius's ruler. Elaan declared that she would never forgive the Council for this.
In 2268 a secret diplomatic mission of the USS Enterprise to facilitate this marriage was interrupted by sabotage and an indecisive ship-to-ship engagement with a Klingon D7 class battle cruiser. During the course of battle, the Klingons' true interest in the Tellun system, access to Elasian dilithium deposits, was discovered.
Though the admission of Elas into the Federation reduced the Klingon presence within the Tellun system, some factions in the Council of Lords still supported an alliance with the Klingon Empire.
The peace between Troyius and Elas continued through the late 23rd and 24th centuries, with no significant violations of their treaty. However, renewed warfare remained a topic of great concern for the Federation, especially during the Federation-Cardassian War and the Dominion War, given the risk to Starfleet's dilithium supply.
Mirror Universe
In the mirror universe, the ISS Enterprise also participated in the same mission between the Elas and Troyius. However, in this reality, Captain Spock negotiated with the Dohlman to gain exclusive access to the dilithium deposits and was able to take control of the Klingon battle cruiser after killing its crew with the use of the Tantalus device. This enabled him to establishing himself in a position of significant power within the Terran Empire.
Government
Elas was ruled by a monarchy, with a tribal society and semi-feudal political structure. Each Elasian first owed allegiance to a local chieftain, who could demand service from any follower who was old enough for military service. These local warlords served a regional overlord, who in turn served the Dohlman, a world-wide leader, though some important local lords could serve the Dohlman directly. A Dolhman was elected by the regional and most important local lords, choosing a new leader from their own ranks, and they ruled for life. The Council of Nobles also called the Council of Lords was an important body of these lords.
Dohlman
The Dohlman was a monarchic role over a tribal society and a semi-feudal political structure. The position was directly served by a number of regional overlords and important local warlords, who elected a new Dohlman from their own ranks. A Dohlman ruled for life.
An important body of these lords below the Dohlman was the Council of Nobles.
In the mid-23rd century, the current Dohlman was Elaan, though she abdicated in 2268 to marry the ruler of Troyius becoming the first and, to date, only Dohlman to vacate from the position before death. The two then ruled both of their worlds jointly, while Elaan's nephew, Dokkun, succeeded her as Dohlman of Elas.
The Dohlman's palace was located in the capital city of Ekeos, and was once the palace of the kings of Ekeos. It was known for its luscious garden courtyards, brightly colored decorations, and impressive stone columns that resembled those of Classical Greece. It was expanded and refurbished multiple times.
Council of Nobles
The Council of Nobles, also called the Council of Lords, was an important governmental body on Elas, the homeworld of the Elasian race.
It consisted of a number of regional overlords and important local lords from the Elasians' tribal society and semi-feudal political structure. It was subordinate to the Dohlman.
Description
Elasians were humanoid, and generally possessed square-shouldered builds and tan skin complexions. They have almond-shaped eyes and high cheekbones. For the most part they all have hair that is either black or very dark brown with black being the norm.
Unlike the Troyians they all tend to be tall, slender with athletic builds. In fact most of the men are over 6’ tall. It is not unusual for the women to also be 6’ tall. However some have been known to be as short as 5’10”. Female Elasians are also famous for their beauty.
Physiology
Female Elasians can also produce tears that contained a psychotropic biochemical that could be absorbed through the skin. Whoever touched these tears would become infatuated with her.
Elasian men were said to have tried for centuries to eliminate the effect, without success. Doctor Leonard McCoy described it as an infection, and was eventually able to develop an antidote. The Vulcans were known to have done scientific studies on the species due to their unusual reproductive practices.
Psychology
In the Elasian view, showing weakness was the worst thing that one could do, especially showing weakness to a non-Elasian. Thus, they tended to be aggressive and arrogant, acting superior and disdainful to others.
This was particularly true for members of the Elasian nobility. In any disagreement, they would not admit defeat or give up either easily or gracefully. These attitudes made it difficult for aliens to get along with Elasians, and especially so in negotiations. Federation anthropologists found this to be the natural result of the Elasian warrior culture.
Religion
The Elasians have a very unusual belief system with a pantheon of gods and goddess’s, all of whom seem to be warriors of some kind. These gods are constantly fighting a never ending battle against the enemy. A ill defined set of beings who seek to destroy all life on Elas.
Mythology
It is believed that warriors, athletes and individuals who prove themselves worth can and will be recruited to serve the gods in the never ending war they are engaged in.
As a result they have a enormous amount of tales regarding the gods and various individuals who by their actions and deeds earned a place on the battle field beside the gods. All these tales have aspects of heroic militaristic valor calculated to inspire the people as a whole.
Society
Elasian culture is noted as being socially primitive, but relatively technologically advanced though not as much as their neighbours, the Troyians. While their society has a distinctly warrior feel to it they also have a distinctive class system. For the most part there is 3 levels of nobility with an upper and lower class of people under that.
Warrior virtues were widespread throughout Elasian society, and have been for a long time, as they have a generally militaristic society. On Elas, it was common to go armed in public, as part of local custom and dress. Elasians were skilled in the use of their weapons.
Culture
While some music, art and mostly aggressive style sculptures are a part of their society most of their entertainment comes from various combative or highly competitive sporting activities. In fact it is not unusual for certain events to draw enormous crowds of enthusiastic fans.
Some of these events have been described by visiting species as almost gladiatorial in some respects. Regardless it is an accepted fact that even their sports are dangerous and injuries are not uncommon.
Customs
As with most civilized, intelligent humanoid life forms they have developed a fairly diverse set of unique customs that varies from region to region. However in their case most of these customs have distinct militaristic overtures.
Technology
They have progressed from a fairly low tech species with limited to low warp travel within their sector to the point now where they are the equivalent of many of the Federation member worlds.
In fact they have a shipyard capable of building and repairing any destroyer class or smaller sized ships. This is in addition to a first class military defence station that can also conduct most repairs. This defensive station also doubles as their merchant and civilian docking facility.
Economy
Seeing as they tend to have difficulty making friends, they do not have nearly as extensive a trading system as the Troyians. Fortunately they also tend to be much more self sufficient and have less of a desire for off world luxury items.
However due to the fact that they also have a large supply of Dilithium crystals much like the Troyians they have very little trouble finding buyers. In most cases they prefer to sell directly to Starfleet Command and not the Federation procurement department. This seems to be a result of their warrior culture and not for any other reason.
Military
Prior to their joining the Federation they had a fairly large fleet of primitive frigate and destroyer sized ships. Most of these were eventually sold off to other species to whom they were still considered useful.
Now they maintain a few modern, well equipped destroyers that police their sector of space in co-operation with the Troyians who maintain the exact number of modern destroyers. The main difference between their two fleets is that their destroyers have double the security forces on board and have a noticeable advantage in firepower over the Troyian destroyers.
As can be expected their ships lack any creature comforts of any kind and are very distinctly utilitarian.
