Personality

  • Personality Traits:
    • Openness: Very open. Following the tradition of the Trill symbionts, Irisi has led a life focused on experiencing as much of life as possible.
    • Conscientiousness: Moderately conscientious. At first inspection Irisi may seem quite meticulous: her desk is always organized and clear of non-essential items, and her extensive to-do checklists were notorious in medical during and residency. However, these are not the acts of an individual who is compulsively organized, but rather a reasoned choice from someone who realizes she would not be as successful without imposing organization on herself. When at home, or somewhere else she can relax, she is far less methodical; the complete organizational disaster of her closet is a clear example of that. Furthermore, friends and co-workers might think that she is particularly conscientious because she rarely passes over important details, but this is less due to double or triple-checking than it is to a very keen sense of observation.
    • Extraversion: Mildly extraverted. Irisi often enjoys the company of others, but rarely actively seeks it out. She often acts more the part of an observer than an active participant. She has few friends, but those she does have are trusted confidantes who she keeps in close contact with, even across great distance.
    • Agreeableness: Moderately agreeable. Irisi is often considered "easy to get along with," "pleasant," and "a great listener." Although prone to a sometimes overly clever mind and a snarky attitude, she has learned to tuck these thoughts behind a facade of professionalism.
    • Neuroticism: Not very neurotic at all. Irisi is proud of the fact that she usually reacts to situations with rationalism and critical thought rather than emotion. She tends to break down situations into their component parts and analyze them rather than act emotionally or "with her gut." This might make her seem less flexible at times, but, in fact allows her to address problems very effectively.

Personal History

Irisi was born on a cold, rainy morning in the small city of Corel on Trill. Her father was a researcher known across the Federation for his work on infectious diseases, and her mother was a passionate artist whose works demanded emotion from even the most hard-hearted. Irisi's early life was comfortable and idyllic until another cold, rainy morning when the entire structure of her life was torn asunder. At only six years old, Irisi, along with her father and brother, received dreadful news: her mother had been abducted and brutally murdered while out shopping for supplies. Irisi's father, Ervanus, did his best to keep his two children well-taken care of, and despite their loss, they kept a happy home.

As Irisi aged, both facets of her parents were obvious in her. She was reserved, like her father, and showed herself quite capable in the fields of science, mathematics and rhetoric. But when she let her guard down, she revealed a passionate and colorful artist. She was a painter, like her mother, and even as a young teenager her works were gaining appreciation among the critics on Trill. She seemed to be on same path that her late mother had followed: a life full of passion and deep, powerful expression. Then tragedy struck a second time in the young Trill's life. At fifteen, she learned that her best friend in the entire world, Mirini Bren, had also been murdered. Irisi had been a reserved girl with few friends, and Mirini had been the closest of them; they were nearly inseparable. The loss of her best friend, in a manner so similar to that of her mother, seemed to snap something in the young woman, but it was not something obvious to the outside world. She wept for a time, but when the mourning period was over, she seemed to recover. But she would not touch a brush. She would not write. She would not sing. In the spring she applied to the Trill Science Academy, and with her exemplary scores and her father's pedigree, she was readily accepted into their medical program. Although it pained him to admit it, her father recognized that although she was following in his footsteps, it was a sign of defeat that stung very similarly to the ache of losing his wife.

Irisi excelled in the Science Academy. She had an amazing memory for facts, and a particular ability to hone in on details without losing sight of the big picture. Furthermore, her quiet, reserved personality made her an amazing clinician: she was able to empathize well, and patients felt comfortable sharing with her. When it came time to apply for residency, she decided that her unflappable exterior in a crisis, not to mention the draw to adrenaline filled action, made her choose trauma surgery. She also decided that it was time to look beyond the borders of her home planet where she had been born, raised and trained as a physician, and applied to a Trill-Earth transfer program in New York City. Once accepted, she began her residency in general surgery at New York Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan.

She relished her time on Earth as she experienced not just the foreign culture of New York City, but also the many different cultures that mingled through one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the Federation. As her residency wound down to an end and she started thinking about the next step of her career she found herself investigating Starfleet as a way to sate her desire for new experiences. She made the leap and took the entrance examinations for officer candidate school. After qualifying, she spent a few months learning what it meant to be a Starfleet officer, and then served a year as a Cadet and trauma surgery and critical care fellow onboard the USS Mercy. Officially graduated, she was positioned as the junior medical officer on the USS Brisbane, where she served for nearly four years before being transferred to the Duronis II Embassy.
