History

Occupation of Simeran

The Ucali are a far ranging species that sent 20 enormous troop ships with half a million soldiers along with numerous war ships to conquer the planet Simeran, home world of the Tiburon over 1,400 years ago.

What followed was a brutal, harsh and uncompromising occupation that eradicated most of the natives beliefs, history, customs and way of life. The elites of the Ucali also allowing the infamous butcher Zora to conduct atrocities in the name of "genetic experimentation" on the Tiburon populace.

Over the years another half million troops were brought to this world and untold numbers of freighters took away raw resources. This process lasted for almost 200 years.

However, the native Tiburon cleverly subverted their captors, tempting them into pleasure, gratification, and eventual decadence. The Ucali finally underwent a total cultural meltdown; their young military cadets and elite soldiers refused to follow the orders of a corrupt regime that no longer practiced the stern asceticism it preached.

Colonization

In other places the Ucali established outposts, colonies and conquered numerous other species. All with the single purpose of obtaining more raw resources so as to construct more war ships and produce more troops.

Empire

The Ucali were able to build up a fairly large Empire that seems to have reached its peak about 1,500 years ago. Over the next 500 years civil wars, internal problems, over extension of their military resources resulted in a splintering and slow destruction of their empire.

Over the next 500 years what was left slowly rotted away to the point that they were on the verge of becoming extinct as a people. They no longer controlled any other species and many of their colonies and most of their military was gone. Destroyed in the fighting or slowly lost due to neglect or mismanagement.

Fortunately this seemed to be the point where their fortunes changed. Now they have about a dozen colonies that are thriving. Each is totally independent and self governed.

As for their homeworld. It was hardest hit during the civil war. So badly in fact that large areas are still uninhabitable. They lost over 85% of their total population and were driven back to a pre-industrial way of life.

Over the last 500 years the survivors have slowly managed to claw their way back to a warp capable level of technology. However they are still a long way behind the level of power and glory that they once had.

Present Day

In the last 50 years a large number of them seem to have rebelled against their government or colonial authority and became pirates, smugglers, mercenaries and raiders. The official authorities disavow any knowledge of these individuals and their actions. However most Federation experts seem to believe that this may not be the case and that they are actually operating with official permission. Otherwise how come their are so many of them and where are they getting their ships and how are they keeping them fully served, repaired and operational.

Government

They have a military dictator ship controlled by the Elites. This group acts as a kind of hereditary nobility. A kind of superior officer core. For the most part they are fairly cohesive but occasional factional infighting can result in actual armed conflict.

Description

While a typical humanoid in shape they have dark, almost black skin over their entire body except their face which has a mask like area of blue skin. Their ears are more pointed than a Vulcans and also blue. They have small spike or horn like growths in the blue sections of their faces and their black hair is wild, unkempt, sometimes braided and normally shoulder length. They have striking red piercing eyes and most of them seem to be fairly fit and athletic.

Physiology

They are like most humanoid species with a complex system including specialized organs and numerous hormones, chemicals and enzymes that make them unique. However certain documentation seems to indicate that they have a high tolerance to pain and adverse conditions.

Psychology

They have a very regimented mentality and are use to a very strict way of life. They also seem to regard themselves as superior to most other species. Not enough medical data is available to be able to determine any other factors regarding this field of study.

Religion

They have no form of religion and consider any other species that do as weak.

Mythology

All of their legends and tales revolve around war, battles and various heroes.

Society

Most of the colonies and the homeworld still maintain the old caste system. This division has 3 classes. The elites make up about 10% of the population and rule with a firm hand. The warriors make up about 30% of the population and serve the elites. They act as police, soldiers and bodyguards. The workers make up about 60% of the population and do all the work.

In most cases there is very little crime. The punishments for such acts are very brutal and usually fatal.

Culture

Aggressive competitions of all kinds form the basis of their culture. Many of them are extremely violent and injuries are very common.

They have no interest in art, music or other sissy activities enjoyed by the weaker species around them.

Customs

Advancement of any kind is treated as a reason to celebrate.

Technology

They have managed to relearn all the technology they lost but in the process they have fallen behind many other species. Now they can no longer claim technological superiority and as a result have engaged in other methods of trying to catch up. While doing so they have been caught engaging in industrial espionage as well as out and out spying.

Economy

Due to their reputation not to many species will trade with them. For the most part they conduct most of their trade among themselves with a little light piracy and black market trading for the goods and raw resources they require.

Military

At one time they had a very large military force with more than a thousand warships. They had conquered more than 20 other species and established numerous outposts and colonies.

Now they have fewer than 50 true warships and maintain a fraction of their old military might. Many of these war ships lack the power of the ones that they lost.

Federation Intelligence Files

Other than the records obtained from the Tiburon the first actual meeting between Federation personnel and the Ucali was when they attacked a freighter and left the crew for dead. The USS Monsoon responded to the distress call and intercepted the 2 raiders. A pitched battle ensued and the USS Monsoon was disabled but not before they destroyed one of the raider’s engines. The arrival of the USS Hornet caused the other one to flee and the security personnel sent over were able to prevent the crew from engaging the self-destruct.

Since then there have been a number of armed confrontations as well as numerous acts of espionage.

Sources

They only appear as a name. One with the reputation of being responsible for ancient atrocities and other acts of aggression in the distant past.

As a result this wiki page has been created to make them an original Starbase 118 species that can be used as antagonists.
