Jaxx: ADMIRAL ON DECK!

::Ben spun to see what was going on, trying to straighten up as he did
so. When it was clear that there was not, in fact, an “admiral on
deck”, he turned back to the Fleet Captain, only to find himself alone
with a readout of his fantasy ship on the raised dais in the middle of
the surf.::

:: As an unexpected award ceremony commenced, Ben walked back along
the beach to find a better place to listen. Before he’d even gotten
quite back to the crowd, his ears perked up at his name. His heart
started to race and he found his legs carrying him more swiftly up
toward the front. Vitor joined him as the Captain attached a half pip
to each of their collars.::

Nicholotti: You are hereby promoted to Lieutenant JG, with all rights
and privileges associated with that rank.

:: He beamed – it was all he could manage, other than a few
handshakes. He wasn’t even really sure whose hands they’d been, but in
just a moment he was back in the crowd where he belonged, watching the
rest of the ceremony. Given the outstanding service shown by so many
during this mission, it was hardly a surprise that so many awards and
service ribbons -- ::

Kells: -- ple Heart recognizes those crewmembers who have been
injured in the line of duty. Doctor Velana, Lieutenant Colt Daniels,
Lieutenant Commander Katy Orman, 1st Lieutenant Thomas Benton, and
Lieutenant, junior grade Ben Livingston, you are so recognized.

:: Ben froze. That wasn’t right. Why was he being given a … he hadn’t
been … His thoughts went in wildly divergent directions, his insides
burning ever hotter with discomfort. It clicked when he raised a hand
to his forehead. His shoulder still ached. Come to think of it, his
legs did as well.::

:: But “pain” wasn’t the same as “injury” – and even if he had been
injured, well, he hadn’t been nearly killed as had some of the others.
He thought back, clearly remembering – well, it wasn’t so clear, but
there was some impression in his mind of doing … some work in the
Jefferies tube before he slipped. And who gets an accolade for
slipping?::

:: Suddenly he hoped the whole thing would just end so he could go
home. Or even better – maybe he could talk to Dr. MacLaren, or
Commander Walker, or whoever it was that decided who got the thing and
reverse it.::

:: Had he slipped? Now Ben recalled something like an earthquake. The
fall was clear, though. And … someone was there to help him. Commander
Breeman? No … he’d been somewhere else, trying to keep the ship from
falling apart.::

:: This was very frustrating. But the point was clear: it had been a
mistake, and he’d have to get it reversed.::

:: At once he looked around, and everyone was talking and milling
about once more – it must have ended. At last. He jumped up and made a
bee-line for the exit. Before him, though, was Vitor – and, he
supposed, it would not be good form to ignore him. He offered a smile
to him and the woman with whom he stood.::

Livingston: I hope you’ll pardon the intrusion ... I just wanted to
break in and congratulate Lieutenant Silveira. :: He extended a
hand.:: Vitor.

:: Looking back on it, Vitor probably did mind the disturbance. There
he’d been, with a woman who seemed very interested in what he’d had to
say, and he’d just butted in. It was precisely the sort of situation
in which Vitor enjoyed being. He thought back to Vitor’s first meeting
with Fleet Captain Mar – then known to them as Culemerwin – and tried
to laugh at the situation. But something about his most recent
interactions with her and the ceremony kept him feeling glum.::

Silveira: Response?

Livingston: ::nodding in agreement before turning to his partner::
And, I’m very sorry – I’m Ben. And you?

Sherana: Response?

:: He looked over her shoulder to see the doctor with whom he’d wanted
a word leaving with Dubeau. With a sigh, he resigned himself to wait
until the morning to get it sorted out.::

Livingston: ::distracted:: that would be interesting.

Silveira / Sherana: response?
