Physiology Edit

In appearance, Arboreals were covered with hair and had long sharp fingernails, dark eyes, and a ridge running from their noses to the back of their heads.

As the third species of Xindi discovered by the crew of Enterprise, it was believed by Doctor Phlox that this species probably evolved from some sort of arboreal primate. (ENT: "Extinction")

Arboreals were afraid of the water. They were considered to be lethargic by the other Xindi species. They were also extremely calm, even when taken hostage. (ENT: "The Shipment")

Culture and technology Edit

Arboreals wore belts that seemed to indicate their rank. For example, Gralik Durr's assistants wore two belts while he himself wore three. Jannar wore five belts.

Relatively speaking, Xindi-Arboreal starships were not very powerful; a Xindi-Reptilian starship patrol could easily destroy three Arboreal ships.

BackgroundEdit

Between shots, makeup for a Xindi-Arboreal is slightly adjusted

In the final draft script of third season Star Trek: Enterprise premiere "The Xindi", the Xindi-Arboreals are commonly referred to as "Xindi-Sloths". This was changed by the end of that season, as scripts for installments such as "Countdown" and "Zero Hour" instead refer to them as Xindi-Arboreals.

Executive producer Rick Berman once commented that, of all the Xindi sub-species, he thought "the Xindi-Sloth" looks especially good. (Star Trek: Communicator issue 147, p. 16)

ApocryphaEdit

The novelization of the episode "The Xindi" refers to the Xindi-Arboreals as "Xindi-Marsupials."

An Arboreal starship. (2153) The Xindi-Arboreal starship was a type of starship utilized by the Xindi-Arboreals during the 2150s.

Several ships of this type participated in the battles to stop the Xindi superweapon after it was hijacked by Dolim and the Reptilians and the Insectoids. (ENT: "The Council", "Countdown")

The Xindi-Arboreal landing craft was a class of shuttle utilized by the Xindi-Arboreals during the mid-22nd century.

In 2153, one of these landing craft set down on the northern end of the equatorial islands located on the Loque'eque homeworld. The vessel was discovered two weeks later by the crew of Enterprise, who attempted to access the ship's data banks to learn more information on the Xindi, but were unable to complete their attempt after becoming infected by a mutagenic virus and being transformed into Loque'eque. The Xindi-Arboreal colony was a Class M planet located in the Delphic Expanse, home to a Xindi kemocite refining facility. It had one moon. The Xindi-Arboreal colony was near Tarquin's planet.

The colony was very peaceful: it had no defensive systems, no active sensors, no artificial satellites, and no orbiting starships. Native species included the tree scarabs, which were often hunted by the Arboreals that settled the planet. It also has several deposits of topaline ore.

The colony had about a hundred residents, and eighty of them work at the kemocite refining facility. This facility, whose primary technician was Gralik Durr, used positrons and antiproton bursts to refine kemocite into a pure form for sale. The colony just did not sell to the Xindi, but many other races as well. It did not sell to weapons manufacturers, however.

In early 2153, the colony began supplying kemocite to Xindi Council member Degra for "research." This kemocite was the most pure ever ordered, with impurities at less than six parts per million. In October of that year, Captain Jonathan Archer of the Earth ship Enterprise came to the planet on a tip from Tarquin while searching for the Xindi superweapon. He informed Gralik that his facility's kemocite was to be used in the weapon being built to destroy Earth. Gralik assisted Archer in sabotaging the last kemocite shipment to Degra, as he did not want his product to be used for violence. (ENT: "The Shipment")
