<nowiki>::</nowiki>Ensign Nilan Rox, a Trill male, walked into the Starfleet themed restaurant. He liked to dine in Trill restaurants on the base, but he had decided to try this place after a coworker had recommended it to him.<nowiki>::</nowiki>
 
<nowiki>::</nowiki>Kona, a Bajoran without an earring, stood behind the counter in his small kitchen preparing more hasperat. 
 
He had started The Mess Hall to serve those officers on the station who preferred a Starfleet setting in which to dine -- typically those officers who came from a starship background.<nowiki>::</nowiki>
 
<nowiki>::</nowiki>The tall, tan man with dark hair and fashionable facial stubble turned with a white smile to the shorter, pale man who had just walked into the restaurant.<nowiki>::</nowiki>
 
Kona: Hey, what would you like?
 
Rox: Umm, I’m not sure.
 
<nowiki>::</nowiki>The man’s gray eyes looked around the room.<nowiki>::</nowiki>
 
<nowiki>::</nowiki>Kona had never seen this man in his restaurant before, so he would give him the rundown.<nowiki>::</nowiki>
 
Kona: Everyday I make three special meals. Breakfast is served from opening to 1000, lunch from 1000 to 1600, and dinner from 1600 to closing. <nowiki>::</nowiki>beat<nowiki>::</nowiki> I lay each meal out here on the counter -- buffet style. And then, of course, <nowiki>::</nowiki>he gestured to his right<nowiki>::</nowiki> there is always the replicator.
 
Rox: What are you serving today?
 
Kona: <nowiki>::</nowiki>Gesturing to each as he names them.<nowiki>::</nowiki> Hasperat is the main course; chilled tube grubs in millipede sauce, the subsidiary course; zilm’kach, the fruit; black hole, the made when ordered alcoholic beverage; freshly made raktajino, the nonalcoholic beverage; and tuwaly pie, the dessert.
 
Rox: <nowiki>::</nowiki>smiling<nowiki>::</nowiki> Sounds good -- except for the tube grubs.
 
<nowiki>::</nowiki>Kona could not help but laugh out loud. 
 
He was what some might call the “Neelix of the Alpha Quadrant.”<nowiki>::</nowiki>
 
Kona: So, what will it be? A black hole or raktajino?
 
Rox: Raktajino, please.
 
<nowiki>::</nowiki>Rox dished up what food he wanted while Kona poured him a cup of raktajino.
 
Afterward, he walked to the back of the restaurant and took a seat in one of the couches and began his meal.<nowiki>::</nowiki>
