Background

The Gorn Hegemony employs a rank structure similar to the Federation.

Fleet Master, a flag officer, and equivalent to a Fleet Admiral
Sage Master, a flag officer, and equivalent to a Admiral.
Elder Master, a flag officer, and equivalent to a Vice Admiral
Senior Master, a flag officer, and equivalent to a Rear Admiral.
Master, a flag officer, and equivalent to a Fleet Captain.
Senior Commander, a senior officer, and equivalent to a Captain.
Commander, a senior officer, and equivalent to a Commander.
Senior Lieutenant, a mid-level officer, and equivalent to a Lt. Commander.
Lieutenant, a mid-level officer, and equivalent to a Lieutenant.
Senior Ensign, a junior officer, and equivalent to a Lieutenant JG.
Ensign, a junior officer, and equivalent to a Ensign.

Gorns rarely need to wear rank as by body language and posture, they are fully aware of who is in charge and who is subordinate. The times they do wear an insignia is if they are going to be in a joint operation with another power and they need the visual reference to help sort leadership positions. It is usually worn on the right side of the collar and the symbols are fashioned out of gold.
