It remains to be seen how Tan will interact with Riley in the future, although he may not even return to the Independence-A and go to a different ship. In any event, with Tan out of the way the relationship between Sidney and Clack has become very quickly heated; it's clear that Sidney lied to him about her desire (or lack thereof) for a relationship, but Tan really just wants her to be happy and understands that, with affairs of the heart, things are never certain. He'll hold no grudge.
To this day Tan remains strongly attracted to Riley but he hides these desires as best he can. Her happiness is paramount to him and [[Riley, Shannon|Shannon Riley]] told him that Sidney is in love with [[Clack, Darius|another man]]. Tan believes in true love- and believes that he is not, and can never truly be, good enough for Sidney... he will not let his presence or absence affect Riley's chances with her chosen partner.

Still... the Trill is a highly emotional man and Avandar once remarked that he broadcasted his feelings to the world- it's doubtful that he can keep this secret for very long... if at all.
