The other side of the hybrid pair, Loq had been riding to turbolift to the bridge and, upon arrival, realizes that all the crew of the Butler have disappeared. When he inquires of the computer about who is on board, it responds with gibberish. He checks various areas including Sickbay where he sees the flash of a blue uniform. Eventually, they encounter Petty Officer Una Qualunque and Ensign Elijah Kovacs, who reveal they are out of phase with the ship due to a transporter accident. The three officers discover that they can interact with some ship systems but are unable to fully communicate with the ship’s computer or access essential functions. | ||
As the trio navigates the deserted ship, they experience strange phenomena, including hearing a loud groaning noise and witnessing ghostly apparitions of Starfleet officers holding bananas. They theorize that the transporter accident is responsible for their phase shift and begin to work on a solution. Despite the unusual circumstances and Una’s humorous attempts to lighten the mood, the situation remains tense. | |||
The team decides to attempt to re-phase themselves using the transporter. Loq expresses concern over the safety of the procedure, but with no other options available, they proceed. Una uses her bag of tools to help Kovacs establish a remote link with the transporter controls, and they manage to trigger a diagnostic routine. As they prepare to activate the transporter, the room is suddenly filled with a blinding white light, causing intense pain before they finally rematerialize. The trio's successful re-phasing brings them back to normal, though the experience leaves them with more questions than answers. | |||
