Secondary school was fairly uneventful for Vylaa. Given the fact that both her fathers had been in Starfleet, and one of her mothers was a physicist, it was no surprise that she took classes in the Academy Prep program. Most of her extracurricular activities were in academic clubs like robotics and the math league, where she forged most of her friendships. In her final year of secondary school she applied and was accepted to Starfleet Academy, and started her freshman year the following year in 2384.

After graduation, Ensign zh’Tisav was assigned as a flight deck technician aboard the USS Richard H Best, the flagship of 11th Fleet’s Taskforce 5, a carrier group.  She worked hard, both on the flight deck and on continuing her education and quickly rose through the ranks and achieved a masters degree in subspace physics.
She was eventually named Chief of Carrier Operations when the old chief was promoted to First Officer, putting her in charge of launching, landing, and the general upkeep of the ships fighter wing.
In 2394, Vylaa requested leave to start a family.
In early 2399 requested a return to active duty.  Her request was granted and she booked passage to Starbase 118 where she would undertake refresher training.
