After graduation, Talos went on to serve on several ships before his seemingly promising career took a turn. In late 2395 Talos went A.W.O.L. from his duty post on the Columbia. His formal deposition explaining his dereliction of duty may be requested from Starfleet Intelligence by his future Commanding Officers but a brief summary is included here. In late 2395, Troyan Bentley (Talos' half-sister Adara Bentley's teenage brother.) went missing after getting mixed up with drug smugglers out of Tilanna V. Talos claims to have left his post in order to locate and return Troyan Bentley to his family. Once Bentley was returned to his family, Talos turned himself in to Starfleet Security and was stripped of his commission and served time at punitive posting.
