Yesterday, the Captain promoted me to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. It was bittersweet in a way, given both Alex's absence and Chythar's struggles to regain his rank, but today is a new day and I'm thoroughly excited about the possibilities. Never would I have imagined a year ago after having returned from a year in hell that I would see this day. It continues to amaze me how much difference time has made in healing old wounds. Maddy, my young ward (and I hope soon, my adopted daughter) has given me so much strength. Being responsible for her has pushed me to overcome my fears. Another blessing in disguise that I hadn't counted on is Jon. He's been amazingly supportive and patient as I try to be better at opening up to and trusting others.
