OOC2: For CD in order: Reflections > Family Reunion of Sorts > Now
((Rosek’s Quarters, USS Gorkon))
:: Lael awoke the next evening, confused at first when she found herself in her own quarters instead of Dassa’s. They’d planned to sleep there with Chythar, as they’d been doing since Alex’s departure. She groaned, her head throbbing as the sound of the doorchime filling her quarters. ::
Rosek: ::rasps:: Enter.
:: To her surprise, Aleya stepped inside. ::
Rosek: Where are Chythar and Dassa?
Thompson: Prepping for the surgery.
Rosek: ::eyes widen:: What time is it?
Thompson: 2200 hours.
:: Lael grimaced. She'd been scheduled for 1300 hours. ::
Rosek: Why didn't they wake me?
Thompson: ::shrugs:: I guess they thought you needed your rest.
:: Lael grunted, slowly dragging herself out of bed. ::
Rosek: Let's get on with it then.
(( Sickbay, USS Gorkon ))
:: Chythar was once again back in surgical scrubs. This surgery hopefully wouldn’t be as stressful as the previous 12 hour marathon on Quinn, and this time he had Dassa to help him. That should make it a bit easier, because surgery was her specialty -- in addition to her familiarity with Lael’s anatomical quirks. ::
Skyfire: Ready for this?
:: To say Lael was nervous would have been an understatement. She felt lightheaded and had the strong urge to throw up. She eyed the room where her surgery would take place warily. ::
Rosek: :: rasps :: As ready as I'm ever going to be.
Skyfire: A’right. Let’s do this.
:: They prepared the anesthesia and support frame before beginning the surgery. ::
:: Dassa entered the area where Lael was waiting to be led into surgery. Dassa tried to bury her feelings. Lael was going through enough hell right now without her adding to it. ::
Alexander: :: smiles reassuringly :: How are you feeling?
:: Lael grunted in response. ::
:: Dassa laid a hand on her friend's shoulder. ::
Alexander: Hey. It's going to be fine. I've done hundreds of surgeries. And Chythar is amazing. You're in good hands.
:: CD heard the praise, and his recent workings on Quinn justified his belief that he was amazing, since he pulled her from death four times in twelve hours. He couldn’t remember how many surgeries he’d actually performed, but with Dassa’s help he was sure they’d get through this. ::
Rosek: I'm not sure I can do this.
Alexander: :: grasps her face and forces Lael to look her in the eyes :: Yes, you can. It's going to be fine. You'll get the surgery and your life is going to change for the better. No more weekly nanite injections...no more crutches. You'll heal and you'll be able to do things that you haven't done in years.
Skyfire: We’re ready when you are, lass.
:: He felt once again like the weight of the world was on his shoulders. Would they pull this off? Yes. He’d saved Quinn, and he was determined to save Lael as well. ::
((Surgery Room, Sickbay, USS Gorkon))
:: Dassa helped Lael onto the biobed, then helped her lay stomach. She turned to retrieve the anesthesia, stopped by Lael's hand grabbing her arm tightly.::
Alexander: :: smiles reassuringly and grabs Lael's hand squeezing tightly. :: Hey. I'm right here. I'm going to be here the whole time.
:: Lael nodded and closed her eyes, allowing Dassa to place the monitor on her temple and to administer the hypo. Slowly, Lael faded into unconsciousness. ::
Alexander: :: to Skyfire :: Okay. :: checks her vitals :: She's stable. Let's get to work.
:: The procedure began as most typically do: smoothly at first. Life support support frame was in place, so they had to then open her up and extract the spinal column. The genetronic replicator they had available was built from the recent design notes in the Starfleet Medical Journals, and CD was not looking forward to its use. He hoped, for their sake, it worked as advertised. ::
:: Dassa fought to still her shaking hand. Closing her eyes, she exhaled heavily, finally regaining control over her nerves, picking up the scalpel and making the first incision. ::
:: Chythar did his best to project an aura of calm and eased his shields to allow his feelings outward but protect himself from the nervousness. Once they made the incision, CD checked vitals again. Still stable for the mo--- ::
:: The alarms began to blare loudly, indicating she was crashing. This wasn’t what he was hoping for. ::
Skyfire: Damn it… 10 milligrams of cordrazine. Charge the cardiostimulator to 3 millijoules.
:: He had the oddest sense of deja-vu, like he’d done all this before. Which, minus the spine...he had. ::
:: Panic nearly overcame her better sense. For a long, horrifying moment, she just stared. ::
Skyfire: :: calmly :: Dassa. Stay with me. :: He grabbed the cordrazine and cardiostimulator, applying the hypospray and charged it to 3 millijoules. :: Clear. :: Administered the shock. ::
:: Shaking her head, she forced herself to think. She had to stop the bleeding. She breathed a sigh of relief when Lael's vitals stabilized. ::
Alexander: Get the replicator online and started. We need to move fast. If she crashes again, we could lose her.
:: CD nodded and complied, turning the device on and getting it ready. As it warmed up, he tried to put a bit more focus into his calming aura to help his colleague stay focused. ::
