Jerry Reid/Marine Basic Training
Basic Marine Training for enlisted personnel consists of an intensive 32-week program. Basic training is a combat oriented course focused on making the Recruit a formidable fighting force to defend and protect member worlds throughout the United Federation of Planets.
Enlisted recruits enter basic training at the grade of E-1, Private. The Private is trained during basic training in a multitude of subjects ranging from the academic to the practical. Some examples of academic training the Private would train in would be Xenobiology, Basic Linguistics, Alien Culture, Strategic and Tactical Studies, Communications, and Drill and Ceremony.
Practical exercises physically train the Private for the duties the Private will encounter as a SF Marine. Physical exercises include physical training and fitness, Hand to Hand Combat Skills, Marksmanship, Land Navigation, Use and Care of Equipment, and Leadership Training. The Marine is first and foremost a combatant, and the Private is taught this philosophy from the beginning. It is understood that Starfleet’s first focus is scientific exploration and diplomacy, but the need for defensive combat capability exists and the Marines fill that need. N. Most recruits graduate the Marine Basic Training with a grade increase to E-2, Private First Class. After graduation, the PFC undergoes additional training in his/her chosen OS (Occupational Speciality), which will be that Marine’s chosen job within the Marine Corps. The length of this specialty training varies depending on the OS chosen by the recruit at the time of enlistment.
Once the Marine has successfully qualified in the chosen specialty, the Marine is assigned to a unit where the chosen specialty will be applied. There are Marine units assigned to planet based Federation facilities, starbases, and starships throughout the Federation.
Week 1
It all starts here with a busy week of introductions:
- Joining Routine (Team building, Introduction)
- Gym and Swimming Assessment
- Kit Issue
- Mathematics and Writing Tests (Don’t be too smart)
- Drill and Physical Training
Week 2
- The recruits get active and have their first introduction to field conditions:
- Drill Physical Training
- Personal Admin (Paperwork)
- Close Quarter Combat. (Hand to Hand & Close Combat Weapons)
Week 3
- It's time to talk tactics this week as weapons training begins:
- Weapon Training (Hand Phasers)
- Drill Training
- Physical Training
Week 4
- More firsts this week as the recruits continue to test themselves:
- Weapon Training (Hand Phasers & Rifles)
- Physical Training & Swim
- Drill & Corps History
- Exercise Early Night (Night time Battlefield)
Week 5
- A camp and field week for the recruits:
- Weapon Training (Phasers & Rifles including Weapon Handling Tests)
- Physical Training & Runs
- Map Reading (Geographical Understanding)
- Exercise Quick Cover (3 day exercise including Basic Fieldcraft and Close Quarter Battle)
Week 6
- The recruits' basic shooting skills are perfected:
- Basic First Aid
- Weapon Shoot
- Physical Training
- Map Reading
Week 7
- A week in the field introducing more basic infantry skills:
- 3 1/2 Day Exercise (Basic Fieldcraft & Soldiering Skills including Obstacle Crossing)
- Close Quarter Combat.
Week 8
- This week includes an introduction to Survival Training:
- Drill
- Physical Training
- Map Reading
- First Aid and Survival Training
Week 9
- More weapons training, and an introduction to education qualifications:
- Drill
- Physical Training
- Map reading
- First Aid Exam
- Heavy Weapon & Special Wepons “Pulse Rifle, Grenade Launcher & Alien Weapons”: (HWSW) Training and Shoot.
Week 10
- The recruits find their bearings this week with navigation and survival training:
- Exercise Hunter's Moon (4 day exercise) Fieldcraft, Stalking, kit inspections, map reading, Extreme Conditions and signal tests.

Week 11
- The pressure's on as recruits must pass the next two weeks to continue their training:
- Live Firing: Annual Personal Weapons Test (Combat Infantryman) (also Computer Simulations Shoots)
Week 12
- This second week of the shooting training is crucial if recruits are to pass on to continue their training:
- Heavy Weapon & Special Wepons “Pulse Rifle, Grenade Launcher & Alien Weapons”: HWSW Annual
- Personal Weapons Assessment (Moving Targets/Night Sights)
Week 13
- Communication and Extreme Conditions training start this week: Extreme Conditions (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Plasma & Space Training)
- Comms Training Starts
- Grenade throwing
- Shuttles, Fighters, Light Spacecraft & Ground Vehicle Escape Drills
Week 14
- Time to perfect navigation and field skills ready for Exercise Baptist Run next week:
- Extreme Conditions
- Exercise Baptist Run (2 day field test exercise)-to test all skills taught in phase 1- includes
- Fit Dress Uniforms
- Physical Training
Week 15
A major exercise this week tests all the core military skills required of a Marine. All recruits must successfully complete this exercise to continue training:
- Comms Training.
- First drill inspection
- Intro to Battle Physical Training.
Week 16
- Training picks up intensity, with an emphasis on perfecting Infantry skills:
- Exercise First Base Tactical field patrols
- Observation posts
Week 17
- Soldiering skills and tactical training are honed and perfected:
- Exercise Battle Field Control
- Troop fighting patrols and ambushes
Week 18
- Patrol and tactical understanding is perfected to a high standard:
- Combat Tactics Of Major Species
- Troop attacks and ambushes
Week 19
Adventure training:
- All Terrain And Extreme Climate Training
Week 20
- The multi-terrain vehicle is introduced to recruits, and tactical training is completed:
- Exercise Urban Warfare
- Mine Warfare Training
Week 21
This week includes weapons training and battlefield tactics lectures:
- Battle physical training
- Defence lectures and Extreme Conditions lectures
Week 22
More patrolling skills are taught, as well as fighting in woods and forests :
- Adventure training
- Exercise Violent Entry(Close Quarter Battle Skills Including patrolling)
- Dig & defense
Week 23
Fighting in Built-up Areas and Close Quarter Battle Skills is taught and practiced:

Week 24
An introduction to the Endurance Course:
- Endurance course acquaint,
Week 25
This week has an emphasis on EVA training:
- 12 mile load carry
- EVA training
Week 26
Climbing and mountain skills are introduced and practiced and the Final exercise begins
- 6 Mile speed march,
- Cliff assault & rope techniques,
- Water obstacle crossing,
- Tarzan assault course acquaint
- Final Exercise starts
Week 27
Final Exercise is designed to prove a high standard of professional skills and tactical understanding and recruits must successfully complete this in order to continue training:

Live fire tactical training:

This is the Commando test week where all the core criteria to becoming a Royal Marines Commando are tested:
