Relationships
Charles Matthews is a relatively private man. He does not form close friendships easily and often keeps to himself, playing his guitar, building model starships, or practicing martial arts and meditation. He is deeply feeling and concerned for the well being of his crew, however, and is always there for them with support, guidance, or a listening ear.

Esa & Charles get on well. Though they don't work closely with each other, except when they're on the Bridge, when they do they collaborate professionally. They've also begun getting to know each other off duty, jumping out of an airplane & sharing dinner, forming a friendship. |

Chris & Charles are as similar as they are different. At times the two men couldn't be better friends, grabbing drinks together and enjoying each other's company. Other times it seems they are very near coming to blows. No matter what, they always have each other's backs and have come up together on the Astraues. |

Once very close, Charles & Alix have baggage. There was a time where he'd have rather spent time with her than anyone. Since the Academy though, the two are awkward at the best of times and his feelings toward her remain complicated. |

As one of the newer members of the Security team, Charles hasn't had the chance to get to know Diego as well as he would like. Something he plans to remedy, but he has great respect for the man's service record and views him as a valuable addition to the Department. |

Charles doesn't always know what to make of the Bynars. They are an odd and entertaining pair. He has on occasion tried to socialize with them off duty and sees them as competent Operations Officers. |

Friend & Former Colleague, Age 27, Betazoid
Before her transfer, Charles and Sevantha had formed a close friendship. He was perhaps closer to her than anyone else on the ship. They sparred with each other, a much more difficult exercise than he expected, and spent time communicating telepathically, sharing things he didn't often speak about with other people. Charles will always be indebted to Sevantha for saving his life on Frontier Day and he misses having her aboard the Astraeus. |
