Zack was born on a small colony on the outskirts of federation space. When he was three the colony was raided. He was with one of the groups that was able to escape the madness, but in all the chaos he was separated from his parents. Days later after the raid he found out that his parents did not make it out alive. It was this traumatic event that changed his life forever. He had no living relatives so he was sent to live with a federation foster program. He spent his whole childhood and adolescents in the program. When he turned eighteen he left the program and bounced from planet to planet doing job to job just to survive with no real ambition towards life. When he was Twenty-one he began gambling and drinking with no plans for the future. Not having a plan or a purpose he decided to join Starfleet. Some years past before he would actually apply and enter the academy.
