Back at Starbase 118, the crew is transferred to the USS Kodiak-A. Joined on its maiden voyage by Commodore Brian Kelly, the crew is tasked to recapture the escaped convict Doctor Solitaire. Evil and insane, the doctor had previously nearly destroyed the USS Ranger, and Commander Vedoc. In the end Commander Vedoc leaves the damaged Kodiak to confront Dr. Solitarie, and LCMD Y'shirad is forced to order self-destruct. Admiral Kelly then reveals the mission was a HoloDeck command test for LCMD Y'shirad and Commander Vedoc. Both will be promoted.
