(Background/Personality/Career History)
Cecil Valo is a Betazoid with a punk rock attitude and a particular distaste for inequality, especially when it comes to the houses of his homeworld. Proudly referring to himself as 'commoner rabble' he has a down to earth personality and little patience for pretension. With tattoos, a piercing and a pinch of anarchy, he does not line up well with typical Betazoid stereotypes. Gaining his empathic abilities at a relatively young age he is especially susceptible to strong emotions in others, something that he does NOT consider a gift. An experienced musician and hockey player, he gravitates toward hobbies that double as emotional outlets. With hard work, one might claw past his tense exterior to reveal a playful side that he is afraid to show.
With his family very much enthusiastic about the noble houses and diligent in navigating the politics of gaining favor, they were overjoyed when they managed to set up an arranged marriage for him with a distant member of one of the noble houses; he declined in the form of starting a punk band slandering the monarchistic traditions of his heritage. While it did not gain much traction, it did a solid job of severing his relationship with his parents.
While rumors have been whispered regarding an affiliation with the Guardians of Betazed due to his seemingly anarchistic behavior, he is in reality quite misaligned with the factions values and holds a deep appreciation of the Federation and their egalitarian nature. Finding Starfleet to be an appealing environment in its ideals toward equality and the value of achievement over inherent genetic advantage like the “great” houses.
Band: Black Chameleon - The symbolism of the name refers to the Chameleon Rose often used during Betazoid traditions and practices. It changes color to match the mood of the holder. Black in this case is a slight toward the ritualistic and spiritual superiority displayed by the great houses.
