As a bonded pair of Bynars, 101 and 000 are best described as two halves of a whole instead of as siblings or lovers, which are inaccurate terms for the nature of their relationship.
101's genetic parents, 0101 and 1111, are a bonded pair of medical professionals. They are surgeons who specialized in the brain surgery performed on all Bynar infants after birth, which installs a synaptic processor in the place of the parietal lobe.
000's genetic parents, 1000 and 1001, are a bonded pair of programmers. They frequently work for Starfleet to install advanced computer updates and perform other such contracted work on an as-needed basis.

Chronological History
101 and 000 were born on Bynaus in 2374 to their respective parents and were bonded together shortly after birth.
Two of the parents in their family unit, 1000 and 1001, started working for Starfleet many years ago. This early exposure to Starfleet planted the idea of Starfleet Academy enrollment into 101 and 000's heads. They developed a knack for the mechanical side of computing at an early age, and would frequently disassemble and reassemble small computing machines (such as calculators) to learn how they worked.
When 101 and 000 were eighteen years old, they were performing routine maintenance work on their home planet’s computer systems when a power surge resulted in an explosion. 000 was badly injured, and their enrollment into Starfleet Academy was delayed. This changed their dynamic, and 101 became more protective while 000 became more careful. They were no longer perfectly balanced— 101 became accustomed to initiating their speech and actions, and 000 usually followed the lead.
In 2399, they graduated from Starfleet Academy with majors in engineering and a minor in com/ops. Their strongest performances were in electronics and programming.
Relationships
As head of Operations, Esa took 101 and 000 under her wing almost immediately after their initial assignment, and the pair quickly grew to view her as a role model. They both admire her greatly and delight in her lighthearted description of them as her "favorites." The Bynars expect they must seem like a couple of lost puppies following her around, but they do it anyway, and think of Esa as their best friend.
Since the day they were assigned to their first ship, Cadfael has been a friendly face and source of support for 101 and 000. They regard him positively and think of him as one of their first friends in Starfleet.
The Bynars feel a sense of solidarity and camaraderie with Sylvie as the only other nonbinary officer that they have worked with personally. The Bynars admire her sense of humor and ability to keep a level head, and they shyly hope to develop a deeper friendship.
101 and 000 are still figuring out how they feel about Christopher. He made a strong impression on them with his forward personality and humor, but whether it was a positive or negative one is anyone's guess. On one hand, he persistently pursues their best friend Esa, who is already taken romantically ("Is this guy bothering you? Do you want us to beat him up for you?")... but on the other hand, he readily and strongly supported and comforted 000 in a tense moment when 101 was unavailable, rapidly earning their trust.
