Hawkes joined the Academy after captaining a freighter ship since he was 18 years old. He had always wanted to join the Academy, but could never leave his Father’s ship and freight business. However, after his Mother had sadly passed away while on a cruise, he left his freight business to his first officer, and finally joined the Academy to become a Starfleet officer.
Due to his years of captaining, Hawkes has a habit of taking control of a situation without hesitation. His judgment led by his gut instinct, which is never, if not rarely wrong. One rule he follows throughout his entire life, is ‘in the end, just be kind’. This has led him to answer many distress calls during his freighting years, so is accustomed to high risk; high stakes situations.
