A rotund, lethargic scavenger race who nonetheless are not as simple as they seem: their "found" technology has accelerated their abilities at a far faster rate than their understanding and maturity can apparently handle. Little known to the Federation, the Pakleds have met at least the Romulans, Klingons and Jarada; they are so deceptive it is not clear if Sector 006 is truly "far from home" for them. Their most striking features, aside from size, are bushy upswept brows, heavily bagged eyes and a "dewlap" bottom lip. A trader ship of Pakleds retrieved Lore from his purgatory of floating in space some two years after Data threw him into a transporter beam to end their first encounter. One group of Pakleds doesn't realize its ore mines on Kalla III are being mined by the Duras sisters on stardate 47779.4.
Pakleds maintain a profitable cargo shipping consortium along the Federation/Cardassian border. They have an obsession with advanced technology they did not develop. Pakled ships usually have stolen or copied Klingon, Romulan, Cardassian, and Federation technology. Because of this they often find trouble with govermental shipping contracts, preferring to stay to grey-market or low budget shipping. Their simple, slow speech conceals their highly cunning and ambitions nature. These traders often frequent Deep Space Nine. Quark says living in Rom's messy quarters without Nog to clean up is like being a Pakled refuse merchant.
