She states the symptoms began last Thursday after eating a bowl of Commander McLaughin's "Sweet Chili Surprise" at the ship's annual cook off contest. I've started her on an intense bowel cleansing therapy which should be followed to completion through next week. SD 239004.27 - Medical Officer: Niccolò del Vedova, MD, USS Mercury Addendum: Ensign Smith returned to sickbay today stating she felt much better, insisting that her cleansing therapy was no longer necessary. I told her nonsense and sent her on her way.

It seems her recent medical illness due to her unfortunate encounter with McLaughlin's chili has left her feeling vulnerable and alone. 	PAST HOSPITALIZATIONS/SERIOUS ILLNESS SD238608.28: During a trip through a corridor to a Galaxy Waystation, Karynn was thrown to the deck on the bridge. She sustained a subarachnoid hematoma and several minutes later lost consciousness. The clot was removed and she was kept for several days in a medically induced coma. Once conscious she was soon returned to duty. SD 2387.01.01: After having something to drink at a local cafe, Karynn suddenly began feeling ill and then blacked out. She was found by the medical staff to have Hypotension with early kidney failure. The causative agent was found to be anticoagulating her blood and causing internal hemorrhage by destroying her red blood cells. It also appeared to be disabling her white blood cells. She underwent specialized dialysis to remove the agent but spent some time (about a day?) unconscious before waking up. Even after waking up, it took her several hours to sort out the bad dreams she had while in a coma from the memories and events leading up to the infection. It was hypothesized that she was not the intended target, although the actual target and motive were never discovered. SD 238809.15-238903.25: Shortly after returning to the USS Independence-A from a Command Conference on Earth, the Haliian collapsed. Initially her illness was thought to be a case or variant of the Reaper Plague that had devastated Billaire VI, a Romulan refugee colony, so the Haliian was placed in a medical quarantine. After futher testing, her illness was found to be caused by Tarkalean flu, which also required a quarantine, and additionally due to complications, the Haliian was placed in a medically induced coma for several months. Between time and modern medicine she became well enough to be woken, however despite her return to health, the medical staff was concerned about her being sent long-term into the frontier lands of the Ithassa Region. As a result, she was transferred out of the region and reassigned to the USS Drake SD 239103.16: Karynn was working in a lab, elucidating the structure of what was later found to be Phosphino-Titenozine, when the lights went dim, she dropped the glass slide she was working with, and cut her hand through her glove, contaminating the wound in the process. The chemical caused a surge in her adrenaline axis, resulting in intense fear, as well as causing intensive amplification of her empathic abilities. While still mostly limited to touch empathy, she began sensing strong emotions from the same room and was overwhelmed with a flood of others' emotions when touched. Through the help of a cortical inhibitor and an enzyme to break down the compound. She spent several hours in Sickbay before being released for limited duty on monitoring and then active duty. 	PHYSICIANS' NOTES Medical Officer: Clio Athenodora Margariti, MD, USS Columbia Medical Assessment: On Stardate 239106.01, Commander Brice was found to be pregnant. Because the child is half-Terran, half-Haliian, the patient will have to be monitored more closely than what would otherwise be normal. She has been prescribed prenatal vitamins and progesterone to be taken daily, along with a hypospray injection of gamma globulins administered at 28, 34, and 40 weeks to prevent blood cells that cross the placenta and into the bloodstream causing her body to become reactive to some of the baby's human antigens.
