Me

Hello, I'm Ari; I'm a corporate pilot from Prague, Czech Republic (a country just in the middle of the EU). I'm simming under Writer ID A240009JC1. I happened to find out about SB118 in September 2023 and decided to hop on and apply. I've been playing ever since.

If you ever decide to fly cheap around Europe and visit Austria, you might question my landing skills if you will be traveling by Easyjet Austria - low-cost where I work part-time in addition to my primary job as a corporate pilot.

You can see English isn't my first language. I believe I'm quite proficient in it, but I can still make grammar or vocabulary mistakes. I'm working on enhancing my creative writing, but my English sometimes might still seem rigid or lacking in creativity.

My character
Jeseb Chevalier Ensign.png

My primary character is Jaseb Chevalier, an Terran operations officer on USS Artemis-A. He comes from a distant colony in the Makus Sector, near the border of the Tholian Assembly and potentially just a couple of light-years behind the Assembly border, depending on the differing opinions between the Federation and Tholians.

His people do not exemplify 24th-century humanity, as their culture is still heavily influenced by the fact that they are descendants of refugees who fled Earth before World War III and only encountered the Federation a couple of decades ago. They worship technology as part of their ascendancy to transhumanistic idea of themselves as Homo Deus, never knowing better than autoritarian regime ruling over their planet for centuries. His origin, his religion, and the way he was raised all create challenges for him as he tries to adapt to the world beyond his home planet in the 2400s. However, like his fellow Elthari, he remains resilient and steadfast, never giving up and always remembering where he comes from.

OOC tips for interacting with Jaseb
  • He's Elthari, not Eltharian nor Human; even his genetics says otherwise! Four centuries of separation from Earth; they have never experienced what shapes today's humanity as a Federation nation.
  • He grew up under a deeply rooted totalitarian government. His unwavering allegiance to the state's leader greatly influences his mindset, instilling in him a deep-seated commitment to the ambiguous concept of the 'Greater Good.' This sense of duty and responsibility guides his actions. Although he does not worship the Borg, his belief in technocratic dominance, advocating the transition from human to machine, comes exceedingly close.
  • Elthari reproduces asexually and fully industrially through extra-model clinics. Therefore, the principle of sexuality is quite unimportant for Jaseb and beyond his grasp. He will spend his life with whom or what he likes. However, the standard heteronormative family arrangement is expected in his home world, even if it is not culturally or legally required.

My PNPCs and NPCs

Damien Black

Damien Jason Black is a Human enlisted SFI S&TI Analyst on USS Artemis-A. Damien comes from a privileged background on the sister planet Elthari Prime - Bayran. Bayran has been under Elthari's occupation for three long decades, whom enjoying all the riches of Damien's homeworld, as they please. Interesting fact: Federation records indicate that his and Jaseb's people share a common genetic origin, and even Bayranee declines any connection to Elthari; Elthari sees them as their long-lost brothers and sisters (whom they abuse, but...).

He joined Starfleet with the goal of exploring the Galaxy. Despite being provided with education and opportunities by the occupation authorities and his collaborator family, Damien was keenly aware of the situation on his home planet and desired to leave as far and as quickly as possible. This wish took an unexpected turn when his homeland issues caught up with him, even in Starfleet, in the form of Jaseb Chevalier. But that's life, and Damien takes full advantage of being romantically involved with the son of Elthari Thanata.

"MSPNPC"
ShintChevalier.png
  • Unit J-9563 aka J was an Elthari rebellion stormtrooper indefinitely posted to the Commonwealth Interstellar Fleet ship CIC Desdemona, for there was no more Eltharia, nor Elthari. A biological machine whose physical shell had died years ago, J was a slave to his programming, bred as a fighter, built as a warrior, and programmed as a murderer. After traveling to the Prime Universe, his physiological remains were restored by Starfleet Medicine, and his original personality was brought back. But his AI - bugged and reprogrammed too many times - refused to release control over its biological slave. The mercy act devised by Starfleet became another nightmare for the tortured mind trapped in the machine. Ultimately, a security officer and the XO of the USS Artemis had to kill him as he attempted to murder the captain of the "Desdemona" in his final display of humanity after the captain killed Mediator Jovenan, the only person who truly understood him.

Full citations
  1. “Despite Jovenan being quite a new addition to the crew, their writer has consistently gone above and beyond when it comes to portraying their character. It's been really interesting to see their growth in and out of character, especially as it comes to rounding off their character. Since our transfer to the Artemis, I've seen Jovenan grow more comfortable in their ability to write sims that show off the strengths and weaknesses of their character in such a way that is incredibly believable and entertaining.”
  2. “Jo, the writer behind LtJG Jovenan, has dazzled us with her mastery of our SB118 Wiki in the short time since she joined the fleet. In her first couple of missions, Jo gleaned information from old Resolution and Excalibur sims and formally “canonized” them by adding them to our wiki. This volunteer task helped codify the lore our crew had created in the Borderlands over the last three years. Jo raised the bar even further during Artemis’ maiden voyage. Our first mission saw us revisiting one of our first Borderlands creations, the Da’al. Jo took it upon herself to read the entire original Resolution mission, parse the information about the Da’al homeworld, and expand the Wiki page with all of the (forgotten) details about the planet and the star system. When the time came to start the new mission, everyone on Artemis had this invaluable resource ready to use, which allowed us to further develop the natural and scientific environment of Meranuge IV in accordance with established lore. During the mission, Jo (as Jovenan) played an integral role in defining the scientific underpinning of a major plot development—adding further to our understanding of this unique planet. For all of her IC and OOC work in expanding our knowledge of the Meranuge system and the Borderlands in general, and for making it easier for other players to build upon established SB118 canon, I am pleased to nominate Jo for the Nebula Bar.”
  3. Like any good storytellers, we all have various characters that live inside us who manifest themselves in different ways. In this community, we tend to focus mostly on our PCs, but writing for PNPCs or MSPNPCs allow us to bring different characters into the fold from time to time and help add different lenses to our scenes. It shouldn’t go without saying that Jo received several nominations for this award for her portrayal of Crewman Renirs, who has made quite the impression on many members of our crew. Rather than say anything more, I’ll let some quotes from the nominations speak for themselves: “Jovenan expertly uses Renirs to add to the plot of our story while also giving room to and supporting the other writers alongside her. Without a doubt, Renirs is a PNPC that always adds to the experience of writing with the Artemis group and Jovenan should be applauded for her outstanding ability to make that happen.” “Crewman Jozial Renirs is an absolute hoot to read and to interact with, and has made this most recent shore leave shine. I've also enjoyed reading past sims from her with other NPCs that she's stepped in to fill - namely Tevet in the recent mission, and then Empress Tevet as she became. I think Jovenan's writing style is absolutely fantastic, and each character reads so distinctly in their own voices, and she does a masterful job of making them also endlessly interesting.”
  4. When I think about this award, there are a lot of factors I take into consideration, among them: length of service, growth and development during their time with the organization, leadership, creativity, and attention to detail. Over her time with us, Jo’s improvement in all of these areas has continued to catch the attention of the command staff, making her a prime candidate for this award, but we aren’t the only ones who think so: “I would like to nominate Jo, who writes for the character Jovenan, for the TOSMA. Over nearly two years of writing with her, I have witnessed Jo become integral to the success of the Artemis (and Excalibur before that). She consistently produces sims of the highest quality and contributes thoughtful and inclusive elements to the plot, facilitating cooperation among the crew. Jo's recent promotion to Chief Science Officer is a testament to her dedication. Her commitment to exceptional writing and collaborative storytelling makes her highly deserving of the TOSMA.”
