Background

Sera’s worldview up until leaving Vulcan to enter Starfleet Academy was incredibly insular even to mainstream Vulcan’s standard. This was due in part to her rather unorthodox upbringing within a remote clan (Lyr Zor) that could trace back their origins to well before the time of Surak. Isolated by remote geography in the Southern hemisphere, Jia'anKahr, within the Lyr T'aya region, is an ancient walled city abutting the Vuldi Gorge; and does not make a habit of welcoming nonmembers.

The ancient Lyr Zor, once spoken of in fervent whispers, were secretive, martial in nature, and were utilized by some Royal Houses as spies and assassins, if the price was right. They were one of the last clans to adopt Surak’s teachings and, even then, did not open themselves to outsiders. Much of the clan’s social customs, behaviors, and hierarchy are still unknowns even in modern day, as Lyr Zor clan members do not discuss their ways with outsiders, including other Vulcans.

Sera was unable to achieve mastery over her emotions in the way that her family and clan required as the Lyr Zor devoted themselves to unorthodox interpretations of Surak’s philosophy. Her entire worldview has been skewed through the lenses of her clan’s “eyes.” Sera became a black sheep within her family and the community after a rather permanent end of her betrothal.

The catalyst for application to Starfleet Academy is not something that Sera ever discusses with anyone (except now she totally did one time), as it is a most private and frankly distressing event she has little desire to recount. Needless to say, after her pre-marital bond was dissolved, Sera abandoned her family and community and fled to Shir'Kahr for the express purpose of learning the required Federation Standard and taking the Starfleet entrance exam.

Personality

Sera, on the surface, is logical and serene. She is in many ways innocent and naïve and had never left her home before leaving for the Academy, and. She quiet and dependable, but few really know her at all. Hers is one face amongst many, often overlooked. However, this has given her a tremendous amount of freedom to study those around her. She “enjoys” understanding how things work, and the solitude has given her the opportunity to analyze and evaluate those around her. That desire for dissecting things to achieve complete understanding is what drove her to declare as an Engineering major. Malfunctioning equipment did not mock her social ignorance, and a code is a code is a code and nothing else.

As she has no family (that will claim her), Sera has found herself adrift and attempting to adapt to life aboard a starship. She is finding her footing within the engineering department, and amongst her fellow engineering colleagues, and thusly is starting to experiment with various social interactions such as humor and sarcasm. This is being met with mixed results. More research and experimentation must be performed at this time.

Relationships

Friendships

Everyone’s favorite scarlet feathered engineer! Dekas has proven to be a stalwart friend to all he meets. His Aurelian culture is on full display as he interacts with all those he has an opportunity to engage with, and Sera counts herself fortunate to work and associate with him.

One tends to create a bond with another when both experience out-of-body experiences together. Kettick and Sera got an opportunity to play dress-up in an alien holosuite program which didn’t require their corporeal bodies to participate. Sera finds Kettick’s thought processes fascinating and finds his presence most acceptable. Once Sera’s secret got out (in her defense she had skipped meditation), Kettick informed her that if ever another need for a champion arose, he would volunteer. Indeed.

Fun Facts and Trivia

  • Has developed an irrational "unease" of the dark after being taken possessed and shoved into a mental closet.
  • She only learned Federation Standard to join Starfleet.
  • Sera willingly tries new things in a most un-Vulcan-like manner. This includes food and drink, activities; just about anything, really.
  • Sera is a TERRIBLE swimmer; in fact, she makes a much better rock in the water, TBH
  • Doesn't draw any attention to it, but Sera is QUITE skilled in hand-to-hand unarmed combat, and her lirpa skills are killer.
  • Sera cannot wink. It is now a work in progress.
