Personal History
Sundassa was born to Mindysta and Teem Faranster, farmers on Antosia. She was born as the middle of three children, her older brother Shelther, and her younger brother Yogar. During her time on the farm, she spent much time helping out, taking care of animals and harvesting crops, helping her mother with the cooking and assisting her grandparents with various tasks they were responsible.
Sundassa's Uncle Dajax is an officer in the Antosian military, stationed on one of the cruisers. Whenever he came home, he'd fill her head with wondrous stories of traveling through the stars. These stories would lead Sundassa to want to travel among the stars herself.
During her 'teen' years, she spent much time learning and tending to her younger brother and other younger children in the area. She frequently took them riding on the family horses. The feeling of the wind going through her hair as she was riding her horse was one of her favorite things.
During one riding outing, a young girl ended up falling from her horse and ended up fatally injured. Sundassa had sent her brother off for help, knowing the child was dying and not wanting him to bear witness. She however had to hold the girl and try to comfort her, while watching the child pass in her arms. She was about 16 at the time, and it was the most helpless feeling she felt. She decided in that moment that she needed knowledge of medicine so she could at least do something besides watch helplessly.
She studied tirelessly, ended up going to medical school and learning as much as she could in the ways Antosian medicine, specializing in Musculoskeletal Pathophysiology and Internal Medicine. She also spent quite a bit of time in the ER during her required internship, since that department of the hospital saw the most cases and was the busiest.
Her older brother joined the military, specializing in sciences, wanting to come back and apply any of his applicable learning on the family farm. From him, Sundassa learned that the military had the most advanced technologies in any field, as it would better defend their planet. Most of their technologies ended up filtered to the civilian markets, but it remained advanced in the military quarters.
Upon graduation of medical school, she contemplated joining the Antosian military fleet to both travel the stars and get access to their advanced medical knowledge. But a falling out between her and her Ba'vira (soul mate, or so she thought), caused her to look at other options. Once the Federation StarFleet entered her mind, it became the only, and best, choice for her.
Back to her Ba'vira. Marseen was a childhood friend she grew up with and spend much time with. They did everything together, and were there for each other. He was her first kiss, her first love. She was there for him when he was putting together his first vehicle, and he was there for her through her medical schooling. Their parents were talking about their inevitable marriage. When she graduated medical school, he was to be her escort to the celebration of her major achievement, he asked her for that honor, and then decided it was more important to steal a military shuttle for a joy ride. He was apprehended by the military and put under arrest. Her brother finding out about the event, asked for leave and went to Sundassa's party as her escort.
Sundassa had her heart break that day, and hasn't felt the same about Marseen since. She misses what he was to her, but they both changed that day, and the connection that made them Ba'vira was severed. She went into Star Fleet without the relationship, just the ghost of how it felt to be cared for as deeply as she was.
Her years at the Academy was tough for her. Because of her race's extra sensitive taste buds, she found replicator food intolerable at first. Because of that, social outings were unbearable, no one understood her not liking replicator food. Some teased her, some insisted she was crazy. She ended up getting irritated one time and calling a group of Cadets stupid, in different terms, she asked them if their brains were diluted. Due to this, she didn't go out often, and buried herself in her studies.
She trained further in medicine, but during a Simulation during her Diplomacy class, she decided she wanted to expand her knowledge into the alternate field of Communications and Operations. She was curious how different situations would have panned out, and when she mentioned this to a fellow classmate in her Life Support Systems class, he informed her of his major and how it got down to the basics of running a ship and knowledge of how to handle different situations, she was further intrigued by the fact that it would allow her to get a less clinical, more familiar knowledge of her fellow crew members if she pursued this type of job. After the training, she felt more comfortable with her medical training, but least knew she was capable of starting a communications and operations career.
