History:
Joseph grew up in an average household. His parents were both teachers on Earth. The only contact he ever had with Starfleet was through his uncle, a retired Starfleet Admiral, who was his inspiration for joining.
After a year at Starfleet academy, he visited the Marines academy and decided that was where he wanted to continue his education and ultimately what he wanted his career to be. After requesting a transfer of credits they allowed him to change.
On stardate 238904.23 he was posted to Starbase 118, 118th Tactical Marine Division, 401st 'Talon' Fighter Wing squadron.
On stardate 238905.06 took command of a squadron of fighters taksed with escorting the USS Victory during a mission to eliminate a threat to Starbase 118.
Education:
Attended Starfleet Academy for a year and attained credits in both survival, search and rescue and combat tactics (unarmed).
After the first year he transfered his credits to the Starfleet Marine Academy were he earned accreditation in basic marine skills, counter terrorism and anti-terroism courses and is a qualified combat fighter pilot.
Family History:
Joseph hails from an average family. Both his parents were teacher in central Canada. Despite the rural upbringing Joseph's parents did their best to teach him about other races. They took many trips to different urban areas on Earth, but he never left the planet.
Joseph uncle was a Starfleet Admiral, but despite this he knew very little about Starfleet. The things that his uncle did were considered classified and as a consequence he spoke very little about what he did.
His main contact with other species came in the form of a Vulcan mentor who had relocated to Earth after his service to the fleet was finished and became Joseph's neighbor. The Vulcan taught him the ways of Suus Mahna (a Vulcan martial art) and as the Vulcan put it 'attempted to teach him the way of logic'. This Vulcan as Joseph puts it is the main reason he joined the Academy.
