Repairs complete, the Kodiak prepares to accompany a large group of settlers to the planet of Kismet on the Breen border. As they prepare to leave, the Orion Syndicate attempts to assassinate Captain Hollis. Allowing the Syndicate to believe they succeeded, Hollis impersonates retired Captain Vedoc while dispatching a team to eliminate the Bellani wing of the Orion Syndicate. Meanwhile, the crew is interrogated by two Metapad Telepaths to assure loyalty to the Federation.
