Embassy of Duronis IIUSS Thor

Template:NewEmbassy

The Science Department is dedicated to the heart of Starfleet's mission: exploration. Officers in this department come from various backgrounds of knowledge, from the natural sciences to anthropological studies. The department is responsible for searching Starfleet archives for information pertinent to current events. Science Officers provide the crew with relevant information on any encountered anomalies, unknown vessels or races etc.

Embassy Facilities

The Federation Embassy on Duronis II has a number of laboratories dedicated for scientific studies of various types. Anything falling in the realm of the social sciences is handled by the labs in the Annex. Anything related to the space sciences, physical sciences, planetary sciences, or life sciences is handled by one of several lab complexes.

Lab 1

Lab 1 is where the Fielding abilities are studied. This is where the effectiveness of a fielder is estimated and their senses compared to the Federations energy sensing equipment. !douet souirtes! is the head lab worker in lab one.

During the "Invasion of the Borg" Lab One becomes a key focal point in developing new weapons that will assist in defeating the Borg. As the studies of Fielding abilities progressed they became aware of an approaching Borg Tetrahedron leading the science team to question the fielders abilities. A Tetrahedron is not a know Borg configuration.

The tetrahedron is an evolving almost temporal Borg anomaly most likely containing the Borg Emperor. Not much is know of the Emperor except the war like conquest of space he needs. He is very much a bon vivant in many ways as the inner sphere of the tetrahedron is systematically perfect. This sphere expands in an exponential curve accelerating the configuration beyond the understandings of the federation or any non-Borg species. Below the tetrahedron is an image of the tetrahedron as it expanded into the size of the image above. The Fielders have become hypnotized by studying the tetrahedron. Only mind melds and electro shocks are able to bring them out of their hypnotized state.

In the sim how a tetrahedron becomes a cube Lab 1 is busy studying the way the Borg Tetrahedron evolved into a cube. The energy exchange dynamics, the temporal fluctuations and the multidimensional distortions caused by this change can be felt everywhere by the fielders league. The sensors in the lab became pinned to their limits as this happened. The Borg cube could now be studied from the inside out by the fielders. The flaws in the cubes design was slowly becoming obvious to the fielders. The problem is bringing the fielders out of their hypnotized state with effecting their memory of the cube.

Lab 2

Lab 2 is a medical lab, used by both Laudeans and Starfleet. Here a few research projects are carried out, but mostly traditional medical laboratory uses take place here, such as analyzing cultures, specimens, running tests on samples, and so on. A mix of Federation and Laudean technology can be found here.

Lab 3

This lab experiments with information analysis of a Ikebana Rift in the Ocean off Rania that has a super-symmetrical non-repetitive shape to it. The lab uses nanobots data feeds and R4 system shape processes. The lab is underwater as described in Labwork 101-alot a nanobots. There is no noise in lab 3 except for the occasional creaking of a chair. The lab is ultra-clean with devices designed to remove any dirt as it occurs. The walls are covered with interactive holographic displays that examine the data feeds. The lab has two docking bays for the Zervon 46a and Zervon 46b. The Zervons are small science crafts designed to study the oceans of Duronis II. The Lab usually holds 4 to 7 scientists with 3 scientists there round the clock. The lab never shuts down. There are time distortions in the area of the labs location that resemble loops that neither end nor begin. As the research continues solutions to the time loop problem are found but not understood as of yet. The Ikebana Rift is know for many things similar to "The Bermuda Triangle" on earth.

Embassy Cultural Annex

Not part of the original Federation Embassy that existed prior to the terrorist actions, construction on the Cultural Annex began when the new Embassy was built, but was only completed towards the end of 2382. Located at the coastal edge of the Embassy grounds, the Annex is actually composed of three parts.

The first section is the docking area, under tight security, where ocean-going vessels can dock at the Embassy. Seeing as the coastline of the island at this point is a cliff several stories high, the docking area is accessible via an internal turbolift or an external metal staircase that traverses the cliff face. The docks themselves are underground, built into the cliff face. In addition to the standard docking facilities, there are two specialized docking areas for the Zervons. Travel to and from the Embassy's Lab 3 is usually accomplished from these docks.

The second section is a neo-architectural building, complete with slanting roof composed of transparent aluminum. This building houses the offices, labs, lounges, conference rooms, resource centers, and other job related areas of the social science staff assigned to the Embassy. Some of the staff here are Starfleet, but many are civilian scientists, archaeologists, sociologist, anthropologists, and the like. This building is well lit, and quite a spectacle at night, either from the skies above, or the rear facing windows and gardens of the Embassy.

The third section is directly adjacent to the office building, and is used primarily for storage and display. Several mini-museums exists inside this large white building, showing not only collections from across Duronis, but some displays on loan from local civilizations outside the Duronis system. There are also a handful of small theatres where holovid presentations and documentaries can be shown to scientists and staff as part of a briefing, or to visitors and tourists as interesting informational programming.

A wide concrete walkway connects the main Embassy building with the Cultural Annex. On pleasant days the ocean breeze can accompany personnel on a stroll to or from the Annex. On days where the weather is not so pleasant, or if one was in a hurry, small electric 2-person ground-effect vehicles can ferry people along the concrete surface.

Probes

A probe is a device that contains a number of general purpose or mission specific sensors and can be launched from a starship for closer examination of objects in space.

There are nine different classes of probes, which vary in sensor types, power, and performance ratings. The spacecraft frame of a probe consists of molded duranium-tritanium and pressure-bonded lufium boronate, with sensor windows of triple layered transparent aluminum. With a warhead attached, a probe becomes a photon torpedo. The standard equipment of all nine types of probes are instruments to detect and analyze all normal EM and subspace bands, organic and inorganic chemical compounds, atmospheric constituents, and mechanical force properties. All nine types are capable of surviving a powered atmospheric entry, but only three are specially designed for aerial maneuvering and soft landing. These ones can also be used for spatial burying. Many probes can be real-time controlled and piloted from a starship to investigate an environment dangerous hostile or otherwise inaccessible for an away-team.
