Badges
Badges are similar to our Community Awards in that they are awarded for out-of-character (OOC) participation and achievement. However, while Community Awards are bestowed on a yearly basis in December to recognize long-term achievement and outstanding performance among a peer-group, badges are reserved for incremental achievements or singular contest wins.
The difference between Awards, Badges, and Service Ribbons:
- Awards and Badges: Presented for OOC accomplishments by an individual simmer/writer. Awards and badges can be displayed on any and all characters' pages of that simmer/writer.
- Service Ribbons: Presented for IC performed by a specific character. Service Ribbons can only be displayed on that specific character's page.
Procedure |
Eligibility
Any member who has completed training and the badge requirements is eligible to receive the badge.
Presenter
Any staff member at captain rank or higher (or Commanders in a Commanding Officer’s position) may present a badge unless otherwise denoted.
Commanders and Lieutenant Commanders acting as facilitators for teams or committees (or other such ad hoc bodies such as forums, etc.) may request that a staff member of captain rank or higher review a list of nominations for badges. The captain is responsible for carefully reviewing such a list and editing or asking for clarification if necessary. The approving captain may then delegate the presentation of such badges to the Commander or Lieutenant Commander, but the captain is still responsible for reporting the badges as detailed below.
Reporting
Each month, all badges presented in the previous month must be reported to the Captains Council by the presenting or authorizing staff members. A form on the Captains Council website will assist in this simple process. The form may be filed at any time (for example, a captain may file a report for just one badge), but we encourage all staff members to batch-report badges.
Timing
Badges may be presented at any time.
Quantity
Players can receive more than one badge at a time, and can also receive a badge multiple times through enhancements -- a marker on the wiki that denotes repeated achievement.
Presentation
Badges are presented only Out Of Character, and should not be presented in sim.
Multiple Citations Policy |
Badges may be awarded multiple times. A gold tip represents each repeated citation, and a silver tip represents five additional citations (and therefore five gold tips).
Displaying Badges |
To easily display badges on a bio or service rack, use Template:Badge or Template:Badge Rack.
