+The Marine Contingent, comprised of 13 Marines assigned to the USS Independence-A, was formed on Stardate 238708, after the contingent's leader [[Somers, Alexandria|Alexandria Somers]] was posted to the [[USS Independence-A|''Independence'']] and asked for extra Marines to be part of the Unit she wished to create.
+The Contingent was made up of specialists and the best Marines that the Starfleet Marine Corps had to offer. Since its formation, the ''Independence'' unit has taken part in [[Operation Bright Star]], which saw Starfleet forces retake [[Deep Space 17]] from the [[Vaadwaur]]. This is where the history of the ''Independence''-A Marines begins.
