He was born in Mak'ala, the Capital City of Trill and as such tends to be a little more cosmopolitan and open minded than Trill from the country. The eldest son of a university lecturer and a florist, his mother was furious when Maz refused a position at the Trill Science Ministry, instead opting to join Starfleet and see the galaxy instead of remain on Trill. Gifted and bright, Maz graduated to be a science officer. He specializes in stellar phenomena and interstellar theory, and has a side hobby of theoretical research on temporal mechanics. He jokes that once he cracks stable time travel, he'll tell you about it yesterday.
