BACKGROUND

Leyisa was born and raised in her hometown of Auban on Rodul. Anyone looking from the outside would have said she had a perfect childhood. But the truth was not so happy. Because Rodulans embraced a philosophy of pacifism, anything that remotely resembled violent tendencies was generally frowned upon. That’s not to say Rodulans weren’t always violent. They had their dark history of warfare much like any race, but they had come to adopt peace as a way of life. Because of this, Leyisa never discussed the violence occurring behind the closed doors of her home.

The result of her double life resulted in Leyisa harboring anger and resentment toward her parents, so when the time came for her to leave home, she didn’t hesitate one moment. Leyisa found herself wandering from place to place for several years working mainly in various clubs and restaurants before finally landing in Toprera. It was during this time of drifting that she discovered her talent for singing and began to develop a real interest in the entertainment industry. The city of Toprera, where she finally ended up, was considered the most progressive when it came to alien species and technology, so it didn’t take her long to fall in with a group of non-Rodulans. In her naïveté, she didn’t realize the disreputable nature of her new acquaintances until they had already sucked her into their life. By then, it was too late for her to extricate herself from them and she was facing multiple charges from the Rodulan Security Service.

Realizing that the authorities were closing in on her, she managed to book passage offworld and just effected her escape before she could be captured, leaving several frustrated agents at the spaceport gates. Two of her colleagues managed to escape with her, one of which was a Ferengi by the name of Drel. Unbeknownst to her at the time, Drel owed a massive debt to the Ferengi Commerce Authority. Because he had listed her as a business partner with the FCA, when they came to collect Drel’s debt, they also took all of her possessions.

Shattered and facing a now scary and uncertain future, Leyisa pled with the FCA representative, Kant, and managed to arrive at a deal. She could work off her portion of the debt by doing jobs for the FCA. Since her primary job skill involved entertainment industries, they trained her to manage and operate nightclubs of varying quality from dive bars to elite establishments. For another ten years, she operated various establishments for the FCA, but could never make headway on her debt since the FCA always took a massive forty percent profit off the top before her debt payments were applied.

During her time working for the FCA, in order to supplement her income, she began taking side jobs facilitating shady deals between two or more parties, always charging for her service but never asking too many questions in an attempt to avoid becoming complicit in their endeavors. She got so good at being a facilitator that she had nearly paid off her debt to the FCA. Not wanting to lose a good profit-maker, Kant came to her with another deal. One that he hoped would keep the Rodulan in his hooks for at least another decade, if not longer.

A new space station was opening in the Aavaro Wilds, operated by the Federation. Knowing that the Federation always provided great opportunities for wealth and growth, Kant wanted to get involved on the ground floor of this new station. With this in mind, he approached Leyisa with the idea of opening a new nightclub there. She would have free reign to decide the theme and tone of the club, and she could operate it in whatever way she wished. He would front all the money to get it started and reduce his take of the profit to a mere twenty-five percent (after some masterful negotiations on her part) plus regular payments to recover his costs. Anything else she made could be used to pay off her previous debt and the rest would be hers to spend as she saw fit.

Leyisa saw the potential of the offer. It was a new facility in an area of space that was essentially a power vacuum following the withdrawal of the Cardassian Union. The Federation had a reputation for providing an environment ripe for profit, especially since they had abandoned the concept of money in favor of a more enlightened philosophy. Some of her contacts had told her about things such as pirates, Jem’hadar, and other seedier elements in that region of space, which would be great for her side business. Therefore, she agreed to Kant’s proposal, after negotiating the profit take down. Kant even generously offered to pay her transport to Denali Station for a mere twenty bars of latinum up front.

Leyisa was packed and on the transport in eight days, planning her new nightclub. The concept of her club included varying degrees of classiness, effectively ranging from a dive bar area, to a more elite VIP section. She had also decided she would have a game area that would include the more popular games such as dabo, poker, chess and tongo. Other recreational facilities would include a small number of holosuites, a dance club section, and karaoke.
