|LOG=This is the first entry of Captain Roshanara Rahman, assuming command of this vessel under the orders of Admiral sh'Hiel. It's always difficult to begin a new assignment with a new crew, whether captain or crewman. Even during the launch of a brand new vessel, there is an uneasy period where both captain and crew are still learning about each other and ultimately to trust one another.

But this is not a new vessel, and this is not a new crew. They have suffered a tremendous loss with the death of Captain Carrero, and I sympathize, having experienced similar anguish last year when the Invicta crew and I had been informed--incorrectly--that Fleet Captain Kells had been killed. We later were able to retrieve him from his captors, but the Veritas crew cannot look forward to such a development.

All I can do is help them find out who did this and why.

|LOG=Thanks to the hard work of our stellar cartography and navigation personnel, we were able to chart a course that shaved off a few days from our journey to Shadow's Edge. We are now in orbit of the colony, and though the scene of the crime--as it were--is no longer still fresh, the colony officials have done their best to preserve the evidence.

I have assigned the following personnel to begin our investigation.

To interview Shadow's Edge Governor Theo Giannakos and other witnesses:
*Lt. Cmdr. Rune Jolara, Intelligence Officer
*Counselor Raissa Moonsong, Ship's Counselor
*Lt. Hanar Tuk, Chief of Security

To perform an autopsy on Captain Carrero's body as preserved by the capital morgue and examine forensic evidence analysis collected at the scene:
*Dr. Raj Blueheart, Chief Medical Ofc.
*Cmdr. Kelrod, SAR Team Leader
*Ens. Stiftany Harik, Science Officer

To investigate how power was cut to the governor's residence, any clues to who did it and why, and what other data, if any, can be retrieved from the security monitoring equipment that was disabled:
*Lt. Cmdr. Sky Blake, First Officer
*Lt. Cmdr. Luna Walker, Chief Engineer
*Lt. JG Carter Greyson, Asst. Chief Eng.
*Ens. Kessa T'Dara, Engineer

Meanwhile, as we entered orbit, we detected a directed transmission at Veritas, seemingly an automated transmission triggered by our arrival.

Lt. Cmdr. Mei'konda, Operations Ofc., Lt. JG Elena Sands, Security Ofc., and Ens. Sofek, Science Officer, remain aboard to examine the transmission with me.}}

|LOG=The Veritas is a good ship.  Though very different than what I’ve served on in the past, she is more purpose built, more specific in her task.  Over the last twenty days, I’ve started to grow accustomed to my quarters and to operations on board this ship.

I don’t have an operations staff, as I have on my prior assignments.  It’s been refreshing to be more hands on in my day to day, rather than assigning my subordinates to tasks and taking Bridge duty where I can.

I’m still nervous about Evan.  We’ll be in orbit around Shadow’s Edge in one hour.  All I can hope for now is that he’ll be in one piece, and have a good explanation for what’s been happening.

|LOG=The Vulcan extremist known as Lenik has fled from Shadow's Edge along with his ship. Rather than pursue him, we've remained in orbit of Shadow's Edge to continue our investigation of Captain Carrero's death, along with the new developments that the away teams discovered.

Given his familiarity with the region and Lenik in particular, Agent Delano has been tasked to serve as a special advisor for the duration of this mission. I suspect he's grown an attachment to the Reya-Laialara, whom he had been assigned to observe, and that is what drives him to come back now to help us. Whether this will become a long-term arrangement or not remains to be seen.

|LOG=The captured pirate known as Sov has provided us crucial intelligence on how to track the vessels of the Kos’karii. We have forwarded the information to the Colonial Marshals, who have begun drafting plans to begin a major counteroffensive against the pirate faction. Veritas will likely be called to support the operation once put into action.

In the mean time, we returned to Shadow’s Edge, where our teams were successful in exposing the conspiracy within the Shadow’s Edge government, linking the proposed agreement with Steadfast Shipping to a long-running campaign of acts meant to terrorize and cause disarray that culminated in the attacks on the governor’s residence and the freighter Falcon. Shadow’s Edge security forces and the Colonial Marshals raided a warehouse that had been identified by our officers, arresting a number of individuals and confiscating jamming equipment and other evidence for prosecution.

We’re headed back to Star Station Esperance for some much-needed shore leave after the trauma this crew has faced with the loss of their captain. It seems Captain Carrero’s cruel fate was one of pure and unfortunate coincidence. She gave her life defending another, and we now are bringing her home from Shadow’s Edge so that she can finally be laid to rest.

|LOG=We’ve retrieved our shuttle teams from Yorba Station, or at least what’s left of it. The station appears to have been struck by a large freighter, which has fused with a part of the remains. The teams only found one survivor, a Valtese smuggler named Kallo who has had previous run ins with the Colonial Marshals and Commander Blake.

Of concern now, however, is the whereabouts of Dr. Ryan and Agent Delano, who both disappeared during transport. Our best hope is that their signal may have somehow been diverted to the rogue M-class planet we have discovered in this pocket of calm within the Maelstrom. I’ve ordered the ship to head back towards the planet as we plan our next steps.

|LOG=I have completed several scans of the cybernetic implant inside Lt. jg Danni James’ brain. All results indicate it is indeed repairing the damage as described in earlier logs. I have yet to determine the exact makeup and origin of the implant, as well as its full functionality. There are still so many unanswered questions. As a precaution, I have also ran several diagnostics to rule out the possibility of any outside manipulation or contact. So far, I haven’t found anything to indicate it poses a threat to either Lt. James or the ship. Following protocol, I have file a report with the Captain as well as forwarded all the test results I have collected thus far. Naturally, it will be up to her to decide what further non-medical actions to take. I will continue to monitor Lt. James until I am absolutely certain there are no lingering medical issues.

|LOG=Antor II is a mess. Tragic earthquakes caused by subspace rifts have rocked the planet, leaving a portion of the planet's domes uninhabitable. This has resulted in overcrowding and has led to violence on the planet's surface. Two bombings have taken the lives of many and has left many more in serious condition. Teams are still searching through the rubble for survivors. I've been assigned to work with Commander Blair and Lieutenant Commander Walker, our task: to rebuild the domes that housed the planet's population. We've come to the conclusion that once temporary housing has been established, it would be more efficient to come up with a design that would better withstand any future natural disasters.

|LOG=We were getting things set up in the mines when Commander Walker sent Commander Blair and I out to retrieve the antimatter from Commander Kelrod's team. Unfortunately, a cave-in occurred and effectively trapped both Lieutenant Thoran and Commander Walker behind a wall of rock. We have no idea of their status since something in the composition of the rock is blocking communicators. Working with Commander Kelrod's team, we've devised a plan to beam the rocks away a little at at time while establishing support beams along the way to prevent further cave-ins. In an attempt to establish some sort of communication, I've jury-rigged my communicator to send a morse code message on repeat using the chirps from the commbadge itself: S-T-A-N-D pause B-A-C-K. I had hoped that one of our missing colleagues would be able to use their communicator to respond in kind, but so far we haven't heard anything. With their already poor air supply decreasing, I'm afraid that if we don't act soon, we'll be recovering corpses instead.

|LOG=Though a few fires remain in the city and rescue crews continue to sweep the area for any other survivors, the initial response to the attack on New Macau has mostly finished. The city's medical facilities are overrun with the injured and dying, and Veritas' own medical department is doing what it can to help with some of the severe cases.

Shortly ago, our science officer made a disturbing discovery on the origins of the tricobalt device, and I've assembled the senior staff along with Governor Blackhurst's over remote coms to go over the findings and its implications.

The medical staff has been working exhaustively in cooperation with Antor II’s Department of Emergency Services. While unlikely that we will find many more survivors, we haven’t given up. We will continue our efforts until the Captain and the Antor II government decide otherwise.

Unfortunately, during our efforts to help several of our officers were injured in the process. The more serious injuries include Lt. Commander Raissa Moonsong and Lt. Commander Luna Walker, both who sustained head injuries and will remain under observation for the next 24 hours, and Lt. Ki Shandres who remains in serious but stable condition.

|LOG=As Governor Blackhurst was preparing to give her speech, the Veritas was attacked by Romulan and Cardassian ships. While this attack was underway, individuals who had been able to successfully bring aboard otherwise innocuous items constructed weapons. The facts of the situation indicate they were planning the onboard attack as both an attempt to rid the region of Starfleet interference, which they believed to be a threat to the stability of their world. Further evidence points to an attempt Governor Blackhurst's life because she supported Starfleet officers aiding the planet in it's distress. We were unable to apprehend the individual who claimed responsibility for the attacks on Antor II. He remains elusive and at large in the region. Only time will tell if we will eventually be able to track him down and put a stop to his acts of mass murder and terrorism.

After the attack on her chief of staff, Governor Blackhurst has requested the use of Veritas as a more secure stage for a major speech outlining the Antor government’s plan moving forward as it relates to both rebuilding and the threat of Jilor and the Kos’karii.

However, mere hours before the governor’s scheduled speech, I was informed that another attack could be imminent, this time on Veritas itself. Fortunately, we seemed to have caught a lucky break.}}

|LOG=While we may not have Jilor, we do have a number of his men. A small squadron of Colonial Coalition Marshal cutters have joined us to supplement Antor II’s defenses and confiscate the captured Kos’karii vessels. The pirates being treated in sickbay have been arrested and are likewise being transferred to the Marshals. While in the wake of such death and destruction, it may not seem like much, I can’t help but feel we have made significant steps towards capturing the pirate king himself and bringing him to justice.

Following the unexpected interruption, Governor Blackhurst was able to go on with her speech to Antor and the rest of the Colonial Coalition from Veritas. I’m not a political analyst, but it seemed the press and others in attendance were pleased with what she had to say.

For now, we remain in orbit of Antor, continuing to offer our assistance to its people and the governor’s staff. I have asked the Governor to join me before she returns to the surface.}}

Veritas has arrived at Outpost 3, a small way station just under a week’s travel from Antor. The station was heavily damaged after a Klingon pirate raid earlier this year, and despite several months of repairs, it looks to be in a dilapidated state. Today, half of the senior staff, including yours truly, was assigned to find a way to make it happen in a few days. And we’re doing it as a competition. Normally, that wouldn’t bother me, but Mei’konda’s been assigned to lead the opposing team. I haven’t had the chance to work much with Commander Kelrod, who will be leading my team, so I'm looking forward to getting to know him a little better. The last days have been... unique, to say the least. We've been to Antor II where the Klingon Jilor attacked the planet with a quantum torpedo, pressumably stolen and created a subspace tear within the planet, on the impact site. More surprisingly the tear didn't dissapear inmediately, but remained, threatening to grow and provoking a genocide. We've averted it and found a secret installation but before we could discover what's there, we found some mercenaries, including a Cardassian and we were forced to leave. But what make those last days really unique were a... incredible news. I've been dating Ensign Stiftani Harik, here and there, we shared some ... chemistry, she wasn't afraid of me, nor suspicious, just gentle, caring, ... we've had our passionate days, somehow she made me feel ... free, to be myself, made me feel important, on a personal level, no distrust, no doubts... she was like Raj, but being a woman. Oh my... when Raj finds out... he won't believe it.

The important fact is that ... oh, it's amazing,.... she told me that... I'm to be a FATHER! Me! Can you believe it? Oh, maybe you're listening to this. I still don't know if you're a boy or a girl, but I don't care. I was stunned, shocked, freezed, when she told me. I've reacted like a retard, I confess. But after ... how much it was... two hundred,... three hundred years bodyless, then merging with Marcus and seeing life through his eyes, seeing him with Vojana, I'd lost all hopes for something like this to happen to me. But,... here we are.... with me realizing that my hands shaked, my voice trembled, my legs melted... My father left my mother when I was so young, I never forgot nor forgiven him for that, even when he reached to me when I was coming of age. He didn't deserves me, my mother raised me alone, fell ill and finally died without having the chance to live a full life, I had to grow up quick, be strong, no time or money for good comodities or to enjoy summers together as we would have liked.

Because of this I've realized that I don't want you to doubt that I'll love you forever, I might become hard on some aspects with you, but it's only because I plan to be the father that I lacked. Forgive me for any mistake that I might make on the road that we'll walk together and I hope that someday, you'll be able to walk your own path and that you'll have the tools and the assurance that I love you and hope that you'll love me too. Anytime, anywhere, no matter what, no matter when, no matter why, I'll be your father and I'll be with you.

The last two weeks have been filled with hard work, but it’s the sort I find particularly gratifying.  It’s not often that I get to dig into the guts of a spacecraft any more, not in my position.  I may not be as good at it as Walker and Blair, but what I’ve done has been satisfying.  We’ve just launched the Prospero, and we’re en route to the coordinates laid out by the Ferdinand to begin the trials for our modified shuttles.

We've finally made it a reality. The modification of the Type 10 shuttle for the SAR team that will be known from now on as Shadow. We've also been tasked to modify a second shuttle, the Prospero, so the Veritas will be even more versatile and we'll be engaging some trials in a few hours to check their performance in the Shoals. I'm confident with the Shadow as I've had the help of Luna, commander Walker, the Chief engineer of the Veritas. I've served with her for a few years on different ships and if she says something will work, I'll believe her. I'd like to recognize too Lieutenant Commander Delano and ensign Wolfe, a new science officer, that helped with the sensors and scientific approach of the shuttle. So, it seems that I'm settling in as the SAR leader, gaining confidence everyday, with every mission. Once I'm back from this trials I'll need to have a talk with the captain, I'd like to tell her that I'll be the father to Harik's child and that we intend to live together. I still have to talk and meet her parents, that'll come with time and I hope I'll be ready for it. It still amazes me that I could feel this way after more than a century of existance... But I've never been a father, so... I guess it's normal.

Aside from that personal feeling, I still find difficult to interact with some of the crew, they're specially,... ellusive, or just not interested in interpersonal relationship with my persona. I wonder if it's something natural on them but something tells me that they still don't feel comfortable with me as they still can see Marcus on me. Talking about that, he's also happy for the baby news, but is somehow hesitant to feel the full extent of joy, because in his mind he expects something to go wrong and be deceived again. I have to admit that part of those thoughts and feelings permeate me and I can't avoid it, but I'm eager to try to put them aside and be happy with Harik and the baby.

Just in case something happens I'd like to leave here that I love Frankie a lot and that despite that I still don't know you, I love you my child and I want you to grow happy and strong, be good with your mother and made us both proud of your accomplishments.

As soon as we informed the Klingons of our detection of a small Orion vessel, they hastily departed to give chase into the Shadows. Veritas, however, will be sticking around Outpost 3 for the time being. The outpost still needs much work done—especially if Commander Core is intent on seeing it brought back to operational status. Furthermore, there is still the matter of our shuttle trials that have yet to be concluded.

We might not have gotten all the answers yet over these last few weeks, but we’re left with a number of substantial clues we’ve begun deciphering. And with the appearance of that Orion vessel, there is one thing I have no doubt about: this isn’t the last we’ve seen of the infamous Orion Syndicate. After re-emerging into the galactic consciousness during last year’s so-called “War of Shadows,” it seems they’ve decided to make the Shoals their newest territory.

Their mistake.}}

Now I guess we’ll see if the Captain will let me keep it.  Several days ago, we left the derelict Rockhound along with a warning beacon about the radiation.  We still haven’t completely determined whether it was an intentional trap, but my gut says yes.

Engineering is still working to see if they can restore any of the damaged isolinear chips that we recovered from the Rockhound, and I’m hopeful that we’ll get something off of them.  At first glance, the Captain’s log appears to be entirely routine, aside from a mention of sensor shadows picked up the day before their last log entry.  Could this have been the Orion ship, shadowing them?  If there are sensor records on those isolinear chips, maybe they’ll be able to tell.

I’ve ordered a briefing to discuss the results of the first trials of the two type ten shuttles.  Computer, conclude log entry.

Of course, just because Mr. Ver had century old Romulan goods on his ship doesn't mean a whole treasure fleet is lying out there somewhere in the tetryon mist. I can think of a number of ways he might have come across them and even fewer of which are legal.
Still, if there really *is* a lost 23rd century Romulan treasure fleet in the Shoals, then Starfleet has seen fit for us to pursue this possibility. To assist us, we've also enlisted the aid of Dr. Timothy Alentonis, a professor from Esperance and a noted expert in both Romulan history and the history of the Shoals. His impressive resume notwithstanding, Dr. Alentonis has had somewhat of a rough adjustment to being aboard a starship, and I've asked that the crew do their best to make him feel welcome as we make our way towards this supposed hidden warbird that Mr. Ver discovered.

The fact that we found ourselves against an armored shuttle only reinforces the feeling that the Shoals need a new way to do things from a Starfleet point of view. While not giving away our principles we need to remain alert, more than in other places of the quadrant as we can find surprises both, naturally occurring or by the inhabitants of the Shoals. That also taught me that we’ll need to modify a bit the SAR training program to include more scientific knowledge to deal with things like the type of radiation that we’ve found on this area, or the bombs that ruptured subspace on Antor II. }}

My medical tricorder picked up feint, trace signs of a bacterial or viral infection. I was unable to determine the properties of the readings and failed to do a proper cross analysis of common viral and bacterial infections among the Romulans and Remans. It was a huge failure on my part. I didn’t do much of anything in the mines like I was assigned to do. I was given this strange device by Ms. Lyn and it led to my team’s distrust in me and aggravation between my superior officer and me. My feelings over Lt. Commander Rosek both professionally and personally set me up to fail. I used her empath abilities against her and it didn’t get much better when a cave-in happened and I got seriously injured. The way we looked at each other though... Thankfully...at least...my team was there to help me recover once we were held captive. Which I believe I was a further burden and annoyance especially with Doctor Skyfire. However, I managed to help in some way with us getting back to the Veritas.

To make matters worse, after we were rescued and my injuries were treated in Sickbay, I was sent to report to the Bridge. Due to what happened in the cell, I wasn’t ready mentally and I screwed over myself by acting out verbally. I should’ve known about the thoron field under the facility due to a Deep Space facility incident that made the crew have imaginations of holograms thinking they were real among other things. I let my experience with these creatures create a xenophobic nature which led to my distraction from studies over subspace anomalies. Thank God there wasn’t any subspace ruptures before Commander Delano found the thoron field. Also flirting with Lt. Commander DeVeau didn’t do much help either, but when she had my back over my assessment thinking the creatures could travel between universes lifted my spirits up a bit. Making a temporal sensor seems like an awful great idea right about now.

Commander Rosek was sent away to talk with the Queen, Doctor Skyfire used my device’s components along with the pieces of his phaser to figure out a way to connect them to his EARS device to make a signal back to the ship. With my knowledge in chemical thermodynamics, I came up with an idea that would help boost the signal. I asked Crewman Shandres if she’d be able to make modifications to the phaser rifle with the components to connect to the doctor’s EARS device. As the Lt. Commander came back struggling to get back up from a physical side effect from the darts the creatures used on us, I made it a priority to hurry our efforts. When our superior officer came to; she told me, Doctor Skyfire, and Lt. Commander Moonsong to keep the transmitter running as the creatures came in on us. With everyone’s team efforts on the transmitter and Crewman Shandres, Ensign Valoru, and Lt. Commander Rosek fighting the creatures away, we were able to get back on the ship.}}

Commander del Vedova has contacted the diplomatic corps and let them know of our situation with Tk’ton’s people, here.  Just like most races, not all of them are friendly, and the contact between us and them is unfortunate.  Now, the Prime Directive dictates that we interfere as little as possible in their development.  Shore leave has been approved for the crew, though I don’t know that many are going to want to take it, given the weather.

The Team and I have had little rest. We have been working through the alpha shift for their training time.  Commander Kelrod's expectations are that we get all crew through the holodecks for close quarters as well as ship to ship combat.

Tholians are an unknown when it comes to hand to hand combat, Starfleet's own records are limited. It seems the Tholians don't board ships, so much as capture in them in their webs and flood them with radiation, eliminating the Crew and any need for close quarters combat. Chief Endilev and I have been working with the Medical and Engineering crewmen on techniques for self defense, while Crewmen Bicondova and Welling have been running  ship to ship and spatial  combat drills. My Team has worked tirelessly and without complaint, each deserves commendation for their work in preparing their shipmates for any coming battles with the Tholians.}}

Teller, Ukinix, and the other engineers have managed to construct a "town" using the escape pods and shuttles the crew brought down with them. Unfortunately, all of them aren’t in any condition to fly, the same phenomenon that had depleted Veritas of all its fuel having done the same to the collection of small craft now on the surface.

Veritas herself is presumed lost. She'd have long burned up in the atmosphere by now. If we could somehow venture out to explore more of the moon, we might discover if a large part of the wreck has touched down on the surface. There might be more salvageable components.}}

|LOG=Eight weeks and no rescue, the "day" on Limbo seems to never end. The beauty of this planet has vanished for me. There is only so much swimming and hiking one can do to busy themselves. The heat and Humidity are bearable, no worse than the Fire Caves on Boreth. I've found solace in finding a routine, and returning to my duties as a Security Officer, while not quit the same as on the Ship. "Night" on Limbo is a relative term, with the Ring Giant hanging in the sky, night is one long twilight. Limbo does have its share or predators, but so far nothing that we've not been able to handle. I've had my Security Teams began conserving our Phasers' power, I've designated one Team Member as rifleman. Additionally one Team Member is issued a hand phaser. With a little hard work and a bit of hull plating from the shuttle I have been able to fashion a few bladed weapons, spears mostly, but I've finally finished forging  a Bat'leth. We've also been able to craft several recurve bows and fill a few quivers of arrows.

The CHENG has been busy improving our makeshift Camp, He even promised us that any day now the New Risa Resort and Spa would have a functioning hot tub. He had several of my Teams looking for Metals for who knows what. He has threatened to conscript me as the Camp Blacksmith. I guess I shouldn't have made a forge. IA has thankfully been keeping out of trouble, her pheromone suppressant has long run out, but she has been good to her word and not used them. She and the Nausicaans have setup a Cantina on the Beach. The Golden Monkey, so named after one of the small simians that inhabit the local jungle. How they were able to brew alcohol is beyond me, but the Crew seem appreciative and enjoy having the Cantina.}}

|LOG=I’ve long since given up trying to keep track of the stardate. And if this plan works, the stardate won’t matter as we’ll find ourselves aligned back with the rest of the universe, on the same day I first gave the order to abandon Veritas.

I suppose if this plan doesn’t work, the stardate still won’t matter...

Still, I must remain confident in our plan, and I do. The crew has been in high spirits the past two weeks as they’ve made the preparations for Teller and Ukinix’s plan. Every possible scrap of material we could salvage from the escape pods, shuttles, and the Compass have gone into constructing both the surface relay and the modifications to the CRI brace that Mr. Ekal will require to make this work. Though there still remains work to be done on the relay, we should be able to complete it by the time it will be needed from the ship.

First Officer Evan Delano will be leading the team going to Veritas, which includes:
*Lieutenant JG Geoffrey Teller, chief engineer
*Jhalib Ekal, our guest from the 25th century
*Ensign Kree'Ahk, science officer
*Commander Kelrod, SAR team leader
*Fleet Captain Aron Kells, who will be contributing his scientific expertise to the team

On the surface, Lt. Commander Tristam Core has been supervising the completion of the surface relay with the assistance of Lt. Commander Raissa Moonsong, science officer.

Meanwhile, a small search party consisting of
*Lieutenant G’var, security officer
*Ensign Wil Ukinix, engineering officer
*Doctor Cole Maxwell, medical officer
*Crewman Bicondova

have gone to find the personnel who still remain unaccounted for since we first sought refuge on Limbo. Among the missing include
*Lt. Commander Alora DeVeau, science officer
*Commander Nic del Vedova, diplomatic officer
*Lieutenant Jayla Petras, operations officer
*Colonial Coalition Marshal Henning Hext
*Captain Felicia Nickson, former CO of the USS Artemis

We've all been in strung out shape since we discovered a downed escape pod seven days ago, and five our missing Crew dead. The mood of the Team since has been matched by the weather. It seems Limbo does have a rainy season, for the last week we've had to endure near constant rain showers. Yesterday Wil picked up another metallic signal using one of our newly scavenged tricorders. I'm hopeful we'll find another escape pod or Shuttle, with the Crew alive and safe.

We awoke this morning to a please let surprise, the deluge had finally stopped falling and we were greeted by clear skies for the first time in a week. By Kahless, even I have to admit it's good to see the sun, and finally dry out. A damp Klingon is not a happy Klingon. |LOG=After months stagnating on planet Limbo, we are finally putting together a plan to go home. The others remain seemingly unaware, but I am extraordinarily grateful.

I've been feeling . . . different, as of late. My telepathy was always a point of contention when I first joined Starfleet - concerns were had if I, at my young age, could handle "avoiding" the thoughts of others, as it's against regulations to really partake in even minor telepathic activity unless such things have been fully agreed upon prior. I understood this completely, and though I've stretched the rules many times, there has never been a recorded incident involving myself. But I genuinely fear this may change in future.

I'm not sure if it's Limbo, or the circumstances in which we've found ourselves, but where once I was only capable of skimming the surface, hearing the murmurs of others thoughts, I am now inadvertently privy to everyone's deepest and darkest secrets, without even 'looking' for them. It's like everyone around me is having a full on conversation to me, yet not including me. Terrans in particular seem to have this two-faced type of personality, where they think something incredibly negative, and then respond to others verbally as if they had no issue with the subject at had - which I know to be false. And it's playing on me. I find myself confused with the motivations behind people I assumed I knew quite well, and I've had to stop myself from snapping at the smallest pressures, knowing for a fact that the support people provide me, while valid, they deep down and secretly believe to be unnecessary or of little value. And yet they stand here, unfazed by these thoughts, acting as if they have no problem whatsoever. It's terrifying.

Even Loupaz, my right hand and most trusted technician outside of Roshanara, has turned out to be harboring what I've had to deem as false opinions - downright nasty thoughts behind everyone's back, respectful opinion to their faces. Not once has she ever voiced a complaint to me, and yet I find myself questioning whether she is hiding her true feelings about working with me. This has never happened before - and I'm not understanding why it's occurring now.

I don't know what's happening to me. But I know that it is frightening, and . . . hard to explain to anyone but myself.

I can't wait to go home.}}

Though Commander Delano's team was able to keep the ship from falling out of orbit, Veritas still required towing from the Colonial Coalition Marshals back to Star Station Esperance. For the fourteen crew members who did not return with us, a memorial service was held both on Limbo before we left and at the Starfleet Annex on Esperance. Their service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

The majority of the remaining crew were transported from Limbo via civilian transports back to the star station and from there to their homeworlds. Given everything they've endured, I've granted shore leave for the entire crew, which given the extent of damage to Veritas, may last several months. Some may choose to transfer to other vessels before Veritas is able to return to service, but I hope most of them take the time that's been regained to spend it with their loved ones.}}

Many of those memories are good ones: my first assignment as chief engineer of the Mercury and the wonders of discovery that we encountered mission after mission under Captain Kells and later Captain Egan Manno on the Garuda. Others, not so much: the cybernetic spiders of Deep Space 10, the protomatter cloud that gave rise to a botanic infestation on the Garuda, and of course the sabotage of that ship later by Harrison Ross in the midst of the volcanic mud dome crisis on Pleethion.

Regardless, going back to the Corridor this time feels less like a nostalgic trip to an earlier chapter of my life and more like coming back to a neighborhood you once lived in only to find the neighbors have changed—or left completely—and the condition of the place has deteriorated since your memories. Everything seems… colder.

For most of the junior officers aboard, this will be their first time to the Corridor and their first dive into deep space. Though it may not be known for the pirates, storms, and anomalies that give the Shoals its formidable reputation, the Corridor is no less dangerous. Though it is an exciting milestone in their careers, I hope they are spared an encounter with the terrors that still lurk out there among these ancient stars.}}
