'''Lieutenant Commander Zaaia Leix''' is the {{age|2361|08|21}}-year-old acting Mission Specialist/Strategic Operations Officer of the {{USS|Veritas}} under Captain [[Roshanara Rahman]]. She previously served in the Starfleet Marines as a Starfleet Intelligence officer.

She was born on Velestus to mother Maia Leix and father Detan Leix, both of whom operated a civilian freight service. She spent most of her early years aboard an older civilian ship, the ''Velox''. From a young age, she was always fascinated with flying. When they were between runs, her father would let her take the helm, teaching her the ins and outs of maneuvering the craft. But at the tender age of ten, tragedy struck. Their freighter was attacked by a Naussican pirate group and her parents were killed trying to protect her and their cargo. Still recovering from the trauma of the incident, Zaaia was sent to Earth and taken into the care of her only living relative, her maternal grandmother Aileen O'Grennan.  

At age 18, she enlisted in basic training with the Starfleet Marines and served as a combat pilot for four years as part of the Talon Fighter Wing, working her way up to Sergeant Major. She then applied for advanced training and graduated 18 months later, receiving a promotion to the rank of Warrant Officer. She continued her climb up the ladder, eventually reaching Chief Warrant Officer, First Class. Following serious injury to her left leg, she applied for Starfleet Academy and graduated four years later with majors in Intelligence and Communications/Operations. She then spent the next four years working her way up to Lieutenant Commander.

She is a dynamic personality and is often very persuasive. Though she is able to assert command in almost any situation, she is also grounded and can keep calm in tense situations. Her analytical mind means she can step back and think a situation through. Her strong instincts allow her to tackle big projects and big dreams by focusing on the details. Also, her astute and observant nature allows her to see a situation in a way others might not. She has a fun-loving personality and though she thrives in the spotlight, she prefers to step back and let others shine. She’s charming and expressive with an ability to think on her feet.  

Despite her driven nature, she’s far from reckless and is methodical in all she does. However, she can take this to the extreme and can become overly critical of herself and others if she's not careful to keep this side of her nature in check. She is loyal to a fault and won’t hesitate to step in to defend the underdog. This instinctive need to protect others can be her downfall if she’s not thoughtful and can lead to confrontation with others.
