Shel grew up on the Faranster farm with his younger siblings, Sundassa and Yogar. While growing up he studied science, his interest in genetics and chemistry. First it started with plant genetics but he grew past that to studying genetics of animals and finally Antosians. His genetics studies helped him with his chemistry and vice versa, especially while working to help his family with their farm, ensuring their crops were good and their animals were healthy. | |||

It was on that night that Starfleet came into their lives as he suggested to his sister that she join Starfleet instead of the Antosian Military.
