* Glasses: On occasion Quentin makes use of a pair of glasses which he uses to sharpen his vision and take in fine detailing as his eyes are good at a distance, but slightly fail at closer ranges. His first pair (heavy black frames) have since been shattered. Quentin replaced them with a largish pair of horn-rims (also black), but wonders about their long term status as part of his look. Prior to the current mission, Quentin replicated another pair of chunky plastic frames, but at a much smaller, more metropolitan size and now uses those as his go-to pair for the moment. They have just been destroyed once again. Since he has taken to a spartan, almost clear set of boxy frames just because of their tendency to get smashed on mission. He is not particularly attached to them. They have since also been destroyed. He now has a thick-set set of square auburn glasses. They too have been recently destroyed.

Now he has replicated a heavy blue-black pair of frames. Hoping the heaviness will keep them around for a while. They did not, having recently been punched apart by Orion pirates on Forward Refit Station-1. Afterward, he replicated a new pair of metal horn-rimmed glasses; this is now his 7th pair since joining Starfleet.

The crew went to quick action with all stations being given orders and told to prepare for action stations. Quentin, working in conjunction with Ash MacKenna and the Medical staff, started to compile as much information as possible on Metagenic weaponry. Alongside work in the Labs and Sickbay Complex as to a way to neutralize the meta-gene at it's source. After a lengthy study of the base compound, the team were able to mass-batch replicate a "cooling agent", thought to be just enough of a universal base to isolate and snuff out the bonding agents that made meta-genes so deadly.

The only trouble was, it could only be introduced directly into the meta housing of the Sheliak ship. An executive decision was made and The Captain ordered that he would lead an Away Team to the Sheliak Meta-Ship. Leaving Commander Maz Rodan with the conn. Preparations were made (as well as sonic pulse radar, appraising them of the Sheliak convoy's location, thanks to some of the Arrow's new arrivals) and soon the Sheliak were engaged. After a brief "hit-and-fade" attack, the Away Team was transported to the Meta-Ship. While the Arrow retreated into a nearby nebulae made up of various volitle spacial gases.

However, during the attack, the Arrow's regular helm officer was indisposed and Quentin was "forced" to take the Helm. In fact, the majority of Quentin's time this mission would be spent at the Helm. Including his evasion of one of the convoy's escort ships, another Heavy Frigate with a vast and varied weapons compliment. But their nebulae cover would not last long, as the Sheliak's probing with weapons ignited one of the pockets of radon gas, burning away the entire anomaly and forcing the ship once more into conflict with the Sheliak.

The odds now somewhat evened, the Arrow and her remaining crew turned now to the problems of Merica IV. As well as how to retrieve their Captain and Away Team after the Meta-Ship had been disabled. But the sudden inclusion of Breen Warp-Fighters, along with a Breen landing party that seemingly had been lying in wait on the planet's surface the whole time, forced the remaining crew into another hard choice. They would beam back the Away Team and Captain, directly to Sickbay, but would also have to dispatch ANOTHER Away Team to the surface. From there, Quentin and the Bridge Crew were relieved by Gamma Shift, provided a Security detail (led by Chief Serinus), and beamed down to the planet's surface. Ironically enough, it was just before Sickbay was called into a quarantine lockdown due to the Captain's Away Team being also infected with the modified Meta-Gene.

But Quentin was unaware of that as they made the surface. A surface that came complete with odd signs of metal lined up and underneath the topsoil. But Quentin was unable to study them further as the party came under attack by a detactment of Breen from a rock outcropping that overlooked Tamenworth City; one of Mercia IV's largest walled cities. The party took cover, but were later escorted into the city proper by a ragtag City Guard, seemingly made up of youths and middle-aged citizens.

However, the Away Team's arrival was met with mistrust and near belligerence. The City Guard, led by a stoic Captain of The Guard, demanded answers from the team. But knew that another attack would be likely. However, odd energy blockages and magnetic anomalies pulled the company deeper into Tamenworth City. Where a clandestine hatch revealed something Quentin had suspected since the ship. A secret network of tunnels and lab complexes hidden under the city. Housing further a number of electro-static signal jammers that cripped Tamenworth comms and Transporter signals.

Further Analysis Requires Further Input.
Supported by members of the City Guard, who kept watch at the rear and city gates, the Away Team took to under the streets. Exploring the vast and seemingly ancient system of caves that had been occupied by the Breen. After disabling a few more signal hammers along the way, the Away Team were faced with the last remaining Weaponeers, who had started to argue with one of the complex's Lead Researchers. But the argument was cut off as two of the Breen turned and fired on the Away Team. After they were subdued, The Third Breen quickly surrendered, telling the Team all he knew with little prompting.

It appeared that the Breen were attempting a grand power grab within The Corporate and had planned to used knowledge gained during their experiments on Mercia IV to do it. The Minister of Tamenworth was made aware of the arrangement and acted as a sort of "broker" between the Breen Weaponeer contractors and the rogue Sheliak leadership. However, a timely accident shook The Minster's confidence in the venture. One of the Weaponeer's "clone-flesh" broke containment and all but annihilated one of the Mercian coast colonies. The Minster threatened to inform Starfleet. So the rogue Sheliak enacted a "scorched earth" policy for the facilities. Using the contracted Breen as muscle for the ground operations.

The Away Team swiftly took The Third Breen into custody, but not before confronting the last of the complex's guards. Who were also quickly dispatched and apprehended as the walls closed in around Minister Varn and the remaining forces of the rogue Sheliak. The Away Team then deactivated the remaining signal jammers and neutralized the reacting agents in the Tamenworthian water supply, freeing the populace from the unseen interference from the Sheliak and Breen.

The Arrow and her crew were then ordered back to Starfleet HQ by way of the Prometheus-class' trans-warp slipstream corridor. Towed more or less with a low-grad tractor beam keeping the ship in the Prometheus-class' wake. Both for debrief and repairs

It is of the opinion(s) of these program(s) that LTCmdr. Collins continues to acclimate well to his transition back to Sciences. His move toward the Helm in a tense moment and focus on the information being relayed around him again proves he is keeping attentive. Rising to the occasion he can in admirable ways. However, with this refocus comes a slight hyper-focus which nearly got him injured once again on-mission as he failed to display a spatial awareness befitting an officer of his station.

Shore Leave Interlude #1: Return to Collinsport/Return to Ring 42

As Shore Leave conditions were announced, Quentin Collins divided his time between two former places of great import to him. His hometown of Collinsport and Ring 42 of the Avarro Wilds.

The former was the product of a set of clandestine invites that his siblings Sara and David had sent out without his knowledge. Inviting most of the Senior Staff for a few weeks stay at his ancestral home. Along with the news that their Mother, Professor Angelique Bouchard-Collins, had left the house, seemingly with no intentions to return in the near future. And leaving the grounds and deed of Collins House, alongside sizeable assets, to her children in the meantime.

The latter return to Ring 42 was from an invite originating from Captain Oddas Aria, who was due to open for operations Denali Station; the first wholly Starfleet/Federation outpost in Wilds space. He gracefully accepted along with Chief of Security Artinus Serinus. Little did he know he was also to serve as witness to Oddas' promotion to Fleet Captain.

As of now he is dividing his time between Collinsport, the Arrow, and Denali Station.

Mission #9: Odyssey Station & The Proteus Problem

Quentin Collins' next mission would push him to the edge of known space.

Chosen for yet another Starfleet Corps of Engineers test-flight, the Arrow was affixed with the experimental "Proteus Engine". An external Quantum Slipstream engine that was theorized to provided non-Quantum rated starships with short Slipstream tunneling capabilities. The goal of the mission was clear. The ship and her crew, under the eye of lead designer Roxanne Wilde of the S.C.O.E, would spin up and test the engine. Taking her from the Sol System and Starbase 1 all the way back to the Alpha Isles and Starbase 821, where a reception and the rest of the design team were waiting to receive them.

The ship and her crew were poised at the ready. Quentin himself taking the Science 1 Bridge station alongside Jacin Ayemet in order to monitor the flight. However, right before they were to be underway, Captain Shayne and Commander MacKenna were called off the Bridge. Seemingly by the urgent word of an Admiral.

That's when the real problems began.

For it was not an Admiral who wished to see Ash and The Captain, but an awaiting Maquis Reborn ambush party. An agent of which having also been woven into the crew of the Arrow herself. From there, a number of things occurred at the same time. Firstly, the pair of flag officers were beamed off the ship in an unscheduled transport to an unknown location. Directly afterward, the Proteus Engine began it's cycling sequence without authorization and control from the Bridge. Working also without proper coordinates laid into it's Quantum Slipstream flight-path. The very picture of "flying blind". Before the crew could realize that Shayne and Ash were out of their reach, the ship powered forward. Propelling itself into it's personal slipstream tunnel.

The flight was less than ten minutes, but their distance was nearly incalculable. Just over the line of the currently accepted Galactic Barrier. Putting the Arrow and her crew now several years away from populated space. More than a decade away from accepted Federation space. They were now on their own. As such, First Officer Maz Rodan momentarily shuffled the Command structure of the ship. Placing himself as Acting Captain, Quentin as First Officer, and Security Chief Artinus Serinus as Second Officer. Thus ensuring the chain of command should the decision to try and make it home was followed through on.

However, they soon had bigger problems. Like the discovery of the saboteur and the looming structure they found themselves running upon. A massive, but friendly seeming station that projected to them an automated welcome beacon. Teams were soon divided amongst the remaining crew. Quentin would lead a team to the station, comprised of Officers Jacin Ayemet, Connor Dewitt, and Dr. Ar'Gorvalei along with a Security escort officer. Hopefully to ascertain where they were exactly. While the remaining ship bound officers would track down the person or persons responsible for their unexpected jump.

Fortunately, Odyssey Station, a station known to Starfleet, proved helpful. If a bit frustration and obtuse along the way. After a short, but slightly blockheaded conversation with the Station AI, the Away Team was recognized as "guests" of the Station. A contact that only deepened after Collins dropped the name of Commander David Cody, another name from Starfleet the Station had "interfaced" with in the past. The AI then guided the team further into the interior of the Station, but as they traveled trouble brewed in the mind of one of their Security escorts.

As the Station's main interface was psionic in nature, NCO Hitchcock started to buckle under the pressure of the constant noise. Tensions rose quickly and Hitchcock moved to attack the Away Team, but before he could, The Station once more helped. Just not in the way one would expect it to. Hitchcock was then "bubbled" in a soft, but firm bubble. Thus neutralized away from the Away Team. From there, the mission would only get stranger.

Finally, the AI brought them to a massive Control Room. A circular, bowl like structure dominated by cylindrical doorways. But as the team explored the room, another feature built itself up from the middle of the flooring. Seemingly by the force of their imagination alone. A "Control Console", pockmarked with various entry points for the crew to manipulate. As the team started to study the console, it became the flashpoint for a heated debate.

Jacin Ayemet was anxious to interface with the console, arguing that it was likely a way to control the mysterious Way Corridors that the AI had been describing on the way to the Control Room. However, Quentin Collins wished to study the wonderous technology before subjecting their minds and bodies to the effects. Unfortunately, neither would really get their wish. As the same psychic song that had taken out Hitchcock had taken over Connor Dewitt. Causing him to interface momentarily with the Console.

Jacin's theory was proven half-correct. As Connor interfaced with the console, a Way Corridor was opened. Directly back to Earth local space. But as Dr. Ar'Gorvalei finally disconnected Connor from the Console, the Corridor was closed. A brand new impasse was introduced. One the AI grimly confirmed. Someone would have to stay behind and act as a sort of Keeper for the Station. Traversing the Way Corridors and proving as a Sherpa more travelers on the path for the rest of time. The situation had most assuredly changed.

New, and newly heated debate erupted across the team. Collins arguing that he couldn't condemn a member of the crew, especially not now, in the face of a potentially decades-long trek back to Federation space. But Jacin held her ground, arguing back that the only way to get anywhere was with a Way Corridor, that all of them together could have enough energy and willpower to keep the Way open for them all to get through it. But still too many questions and unknowns remained for Quentin. He resolved none of them would touch the Console until they knew more.

But still the signal remained. And even rose in pitch across the minds of the whole team. Tempers flared. Words were exchanged. And ultimately, Jacin Ayemet disobeyed a direct order from Quentin. But had she not, they might not have gotten back home. Crossing confidently, the young officer drove her hands into the Console unit, opening up the Way Corridor once more just a sliver. Expressing himself in a slightly terse manner, Quentin Collins and the rest of the team had to act quickly. As the doctor stated that she was stable, but in a slight fugue state, Quentin once more weighed his options. He would take the mantle of this "Keeper" to keep his peers from it, but they had to get the whole ship home.

They were left with little recourse. They would have to interface along with Jacin into the Console. So they did so, fully opening the Way Corridors. Unknown to the team however, was that the powerful psychic waves of the Station had been affecting the ship and it's action as well. Sweeping up a wayward saboteur that had kicked off this whole mis-adventure in the first place. As they were replaced in the Away Team's spot, the team was miraculously transported back to the ship and the ship itself back into local space. A very confused reception party still awaiting them at Starbase 821.

Mission #10: The Peril of Pankot III

Quentin's next mission began under less than auspicious circumstances. But would have lasting ramifications for the Alpha Isles overall. Acting under mysterious orders from the Federation Diplomatic Corps, the Arrow and her crew were tasked with the pick up and hosting of a Chalnoth delegation. Stranger still, this delegation requested aid through official channels, making them the first group of Chalnoth to EVER contact Starfleet through official channels and under the banner of non-hostility.

Using the Proteus Ring to speed to the rally point, deep in uncharted Alpha Isles space, the ship then played host to one Captain Messoq, his firebrand first officer Hallack, and a seemingly ancient Elder. Transferring to the Arrow from their own ship, The Saracen, a scarred, but impressive warship that looked as if it had just left battle. Turns out, it had, as the Captain started to lay out a most unusual tale. They were under assault by a rival faction of Chalnoth, led by the ruthless Captain Morrack. This Morrack had been pursuing them for months and had possession of information that could fully destabilize Chalnoth society.

Slightly pushed by Captain Shayne, Messoq revealed a true bombshell, along with the help of the Elder. Presenting a seemingly hundreds-of-years-old map of a star system called Pankot III, Messoq and the Elder started to lay out the "true" history of the Chalnoth and how Messoq and his people had been fighting to preserve it all their lives. Long ago, thousands of years before the establishment of Chalna, the Chalnoth were ruled over by a dynasty of warrior-kings. Kings who commanded loyal teams of raiders and Captains, who were primarily based on the planet and associated system Pankot III. From this seat of power, the Chalnoth were a much more organized and forward planning race, enjoying a sort of brief "Golden Age" as they horded treasure and accolades across the surface of Pankot III.

Prized ahead of all these spoils was The Claw of Chalna, a sort of symbol of state that was awarded (or taken) by the strongest dynasty, securing their power over the planet and it's people. Over time, however, these warrior-kings and their courts fell to ruin and the Chalnoth started outward into deep space, but legends remained of the Claw. Telling of a grand challenge those worthy would have to endure and conquer should they wish to restore power and honour to the Chalnoth people.

This map, Messoq explained, was essentially a treasure map, but he had not the time or resources to search for it, while also fending off Anti-Royalist forces at the same time. He implored the Arrow; help him and his people find The Claw and restore a sort of order to the known Chalnoth power structure. But the Arrow was faced with largely the same problem as Messoq. Pankot III was separated across three massive continents. All with their own distinct climates and ecosystems. This task would spread the Senior Staff to the very brink.

Captain Shayne came to an unorthodox solution. They would ALL search for the Claw. Across three Away Teams. He himself would lead the First Team, to the First Continent (an icy wasteland). Commander Maz Rodan would lead the Second Team to the adjourning Continent (a dense jungle). INTEL Chief Ash MacKenna was given command of the The Third Team, Quentin's own assignment as well, alongside Counselor R'Ariel and a Security/Marine detachment. Their field of action would be The Third Continent. A dry, highly arid plateau of dunes and sporadic stone ruins. After a brief readying up period, all three Teams were away.

Right away, Team Three encountered problems. An encroaching sandstorm along with slightly overzealously hungry local wildlife hampered their early advances. Advances that quickly became a footrace once evidence of another team on the Continent was found. A team supported by a strafing Chalnoth fighter-form ship. After gaining the unlikely guide in a sand creature, the Third Team was led into a brand new biome on the planet. A sort of oasis like area dominated by lush vegetation and stone ruins, shown on Messoq's ancient map as "The Valley of Kings". Ruins that seemed to suggest deeper structures under the crust of the planet.

But before they could explore further, another local creature made itself known. A segmented, large-scale sandwrym disturbed by the team's steps into it's hidden sanctuary. However, before it could strike, Counselor R'Ariel "connected" with the creature as she had their first encounter. Seeing through it's outwardly hostile posturing as nothing more than protecting itself and it's newly hatched brood. Once more, however, their pursuers made themselves known. The fighter-form firing on the wrym and driving it into a destructive frenzy. It started to thrash against the ruins around them, driving the team to seek refuge in the interior of the planet. Unwittingly bringing them closer and closer to The Claw.

Yet another, completely different setting greeted the Third Team. A highly designed and highly detailed ossuary, filled with the moldering bones of long-dead Chalnoth. Interred with their ancient weapons and armor. As the team gained its bearings once more, strange energy signals beckoned them deeper into the chamber. As well as The Counselor picking up more and more psionic messages coming from the same direction. The path was clear. And at the end of the path, another massive, but completely intact ruin. Comparable and eerily similar to Ancient Earth's The Parthenon. Later labeled by Messoq's map as "The Tomb of The Chalnoth Ancients".

Keeping a sharp eye out for booby traps and scaling the ruin's immense steps, the team crept closer to it's yawning doors. But even more fascinating clues trailed along with them. Scattered gold coins and currency of various other galactic factions. In particular, The Romulan Star Empire. Finally they made the doorway and were revealed with more impossible sights. A respectfully interred line of six dead Chalnoth. All surrounded by finery, heavily decorated weapons and armor, and laid to rest with incredible amounts of wealth and riches. On the other side of the chamber, more large doorways leading deeper into the structure.

One of their Security detail, wishing to stay ahead of their pursuers, started forward. Finally triggering one of the booby traps Captain Messoq had warned them about. Thankfully, Quentin was slightly quicker on the draw, bundling up the officer and hauling him backward right before a pendulous scything blade swept the whole of the inner chamber. The situation went from bad to worse as noise drew the team to look back. Only in time to see their pursuing Chalnoth had made the inner chamber. Mainly thanks to the heavy concussive weapons of Breen Weaponeers, who had been providing ground support apparently.

The footrace now had higher stakes. MacKenna ordered the whole team across the chamber, keeping a keen eye out for trap triggers and using the vast mountains of treasure as cover. Thankfully, their flight was without incident, though The Counselor seemed to be more and more disturbed as they continued deeper. Finding yet another ossuary, but the bodies seemed to be more like the bodies in the front chamber. More armor and weapons, but now with more interior chambers and corridors, suggesting a larger superstructure to the whole complex. But this inner chamber had something the others didn't. Signs of life. As well as a source to those psionic energies the Team had experienced since planetfall.

Quickly they realized why. Across one of the adjourning chambers was another, bathed in a deep rose-gold light and the noise of smithy. The Team investigated to find a vast forge, littered with perfect copies of The Claw. A hulking, wizened Chalnoth Guard presiding over the whole scene. As they tried to negotiate and state their intentions, The Guard seemed to zero in on The Counselor. Interacting with her exclusively and through psychic contact alone. So much so, he "banished" MacKenna and Collins and their SEC detail out of the chamber. Putting up some sort of barrier between themselves and the outer chamber. And for good measure, a collection of ghostly manifestations of Chalnoth Honour Guards. Ready and waiting to strike.

And strike they would, but not our Team. As the scene settled, the Breen and Anti-Royalist Forces smashed through the outer wall. Two of the Breen made the first move, but it would be their undoing. As the wraith guards pounced, taking them even before they could bring their weapons to bear. A fraught standstill followed. The Team pleaded with the Anti-Royalists, imploring some sort of compromise or diplomatic solution to the fracas. No joy there, however, but it drove the team to explore...unconventional solutions.

Spurned on by Counselor R'Ariel's psychic pleas, Quentin formed a sort of psionic circuit with the rest of the team. Driving and directing them to project their positive intentions and altruistic goals as to gaining The Claw. After more tense moments, the gambit worked! Bringing down the psychic shields of The Guard and proving Counselor R'Ariel (and the Team as a whole) as worthy to hold The Claw. But there was still the matter of the Anti-Royalists. Who demanded The Claw as soon as the Team regrouped.

But unbeknownst to them, contact with the rest of the teams and the ship above had been restored. And Quentin wasn't about to give up their prize this early. Pitching another gambit, calling for an "emergency medical transport", The Third Team was finally reunited with the First and Second. Right as both factions of Chalnoth rushed toward conflict. But Captain Shayne had seen and heard enough.

Calling both factions to the comms, he had made his determination based on the way the search had gone. He called for the Arrow to LEAVE the sector, taking The Claw with them. Keeping it just out of reach of both factions and keeping it that way unless real progress had been made in their regimes. From there, The Captain ordered them to depart the system at high warp. Finally deciding further to take one Myssa T'Vaz up on her offer for repair and restock at Forward Refit Station-1.

It is the opinion(s) of these program(s) that LTCMDR. Quentin Collins has made a full transition back to his "real self". Both as Chief Science Officer and regular duty officer, keeping his emotions in check on and off mission and providing welcome support to his fellow Arrow officer. However, it is also of the opinion(s) of these program(s) that LTCMDR. Quentin Collins continues to overvalue his peers' opinion and emotional connection with him as a person and superior officer. Could these personal feelings continue to bloom, Chief Collins could risk losing objectivity and thus the respect of his peers.
