Megarite: Difference between revisions

The Megarite have been loyal members of the federation for about 100 years. Soon after developing warp technology they were contacted by the Vulcans. They liked the federation system of alliance and it was quickly put to a popular vote by the entire population which easily passed.

They are known for the wondrous form of communication through song.

Due to their barter system, the first contact with the Ferrengi was not a good one. The Ferrengi  embassy was shut down by government order and all trade was halted with them. They are known for the resources in minerals, both on their home world and in the asteroid belt which they lay claim upon. The process some of the minerals but the vast majority are shipped out to other worlds.

The Megarite have a basic caretaker government. Each citizen of age has the right to vote on important issues. Each citizen who can get sufficient signatures for   a referendum it will be voted on by the general population. The government body is just a permanent body to implement decrees by the general population. There is a prime minister, but he is just a officer of the government that is primarily diplomatic in nature.

 

 

They are quite humanoid in appearance, but they a working set of gills that process water and air for oxygen. He have a thick skin much like a rhino . They also have layered lips over their mouth. They have no vocal cords as such and they vibrate their lips to produce sound. They have no teeth and all of their food must be liquid or in a puree to be digested.

 

The are quite adapt at  songs which is their main form of  vocal communication.  They use a universal translator for all off world communications.

While they now live on the land, the normally require contact with water to regulate their bodies.

 

They have most of their population centers near water. With the help of the Federation with had technology to take sufficient moisture out of the air to survive for long periods without breathing water.

The Megairte believe that it is important to be one with nature. While they are very good a mining and have abundant raw materials. They now get the vast majority of the materials form their own solar system.

While humanoid in appearance they believe that they descendents from marine animals that moved to the land. The maintain their ability to use gills to breath under water. They are highly respectful of the maine life in the water. Fishing is permitted but strict limits are imposed and over harvesting is not allowed. They have most of their population centers near water. It is a very open and friendly society. They welcome off worlders and believe in complete freedom of choice. They schedule referendums every 101 days. They are very involved in local events and concerns, as the government is only to implement the wish of the people. The people are the complete decision makers on the planet.

 

The are a very friendly people, very open to strangers. With their large mineral wealth they have a cottage industry of beautiful jade work that is known throughout the Federation.

It is the custom for the Megairte to completely cover their bodies except for their faces. This is a ritual that has been passed down for thousands of years. The sun would tan the body and this is not allowed. So they adapted large robes with hoods to protect themselves. Their song is a low sung one so it is important to be close to one. Usually to be with a foot of another being. To stand farther away normally if a conversation is considered an insult.

 

The Megairte have vast mining skills. This comes from having large mineral deposits both on their home world and in the solar system which they mine. This is where they receive the majority of their off world income. The do have large fields of grains that they harvest for food. They eat meat sparingly.

The discovered warp technology about 100 years ago. But they normally do not venture outside their own solar system.

The Megairte economy is completely based up barter system. While they use the Federation credit for all off world transactions. All the raw materials are owned by the citizens, and everyone technically owns all the raw materials. The have vast mining interests on their world and in their solar system.

The Megairte has no military in the formal sense of the term. The have several rescue and internal security forces. They rely completely on the Federation for all military services.
