2401 was not just a new year, but also for Nilsen a new start with the commissioning and reassignment to the USS Octavia E Butler along with the majority of the crew from the Oumuamua. However, while others may have been celebrating the move, Nilsen was filled with a sense of anxiety; the sense that he didn't deserve his promotion and the lingering question. was Starfleet really the right place for him?

Act one - The Kings Path
Act One of the Cheyd'lang mission, titled "The King’s Path", began with the crew of the USS Octavia E Butler encountering the Cheydalanga species. Lieutenant Nilsen was assigned to run scans of the local area to prepare for any unexpected situations.
The setting resembled a small farming community, which Nilsen found similar to his home on Gault. This brought a level of familiarity to an otherwise alien environment.
There were interactions with the leader of the Cheydalanga, with Nilsen attempting to prove his worth and establish rapport. The crew grappled with the Cheydalanga's xenophobic tendencies, trying to understand and navigate their social and political structures.
The Act concluded with the crew being taken to a mine where they found malnourished Chey’d. This discovery galvanized Nilsen's determination to rescue them.
Act Two - Jailbrid
Act Two of the Cheyd'lang mission, titled "Jailbird," began with Lieutenant Nilsen and other members of the USS Octavia E Butler crew taken captive by members of the King's Path. They had their equipment seized and were forced to work in the mine.
A significant event was the King's Path attempting to suffocate the Antani with poison gas. After this event, Nilsen and the crew made contact with the Antani and secured their assistance.
During this time, Nilsen, Dr. Toz, and the Antani queen decided to inform the OEB crew of their location and the location of the King's Path. They used broadcast equipment and hoped the OEB crew was following policy and monitoring broadcasts.
