Resolution’s next mission was to go to the Da’al homeworld after Starfleet received a message from the Prime Minister’s Military Advisor, Zeneth - without the Prime Minister’s awareness or permission.
Klingons had entered their territory to speak to the Prime Minister, The Da’al, a non-violent warp-capable species, had previously refused to establish formal relations with either the Federation or the Klingon Empire, citing their desire to remain independent.
Meidra accompanied Commander MacKenzie and other officers to the surface to the planet to discuss the situation, and determine what the Klingons were hoping to accomplish. The Klingons informed the Da’al and the away team that they shared a genetic ancestry and wished to welcome their new cousins into the Empire. Zeneth was not convinced this was a good idea, asking the Federation for assistance, while Ypartin, the Prime Minister, used this time to assert his total authority to take over the planet for his own use.
MacKenzie questioned Ypartin, while the Prime Minister did not realize that his words were being transmitted throughout the homeworld and outlying colonies. His treachery was protested by the very people he had sought to rule, and he was placed under arrest. Due to unknown circumstances, he escaped, and his current whereabouts are unknown.
Before Starfleet departed, the advisor responded favorably to the idea of establishing peaceful relations with the Federation when they were ready to do so. The Klingons left the system without incident.
