Gogi was born and raised on a farm just outside a small village and a few miles away from the nearest city. He had a happy childhood, but always knew he would someday move away from his home. He was an adventurous boy and loved exploring and camping from which he developed a love of nature. When he was old enough, he moved to the city to seek work. He lived with his uncle, aunt and cousins who had moved there when he was a child. He did odd jobs, but eventually worked on-board his oldest cousin's freighter ship mostly as a loader. On one trip their crew met a party of humans and after a few drinks Gogi became fascinated by them. When he heard of Starfleet he decided he would make it his mission to join by any means necessary. He majored in Security and was particularly adept at survival due to the natural hardiness of the Bardeezan people, but was generally average or lower in non-physical subjects.
