Shurimal came to Starfleet later in life than most, having first experienced a rather adventurous career as an archaeologist for the History Council of Ullia. He explored historical rumours and antiquarian legends across star systems in the Ullian sector, earning himself something of a poor academic reputation until his discovery of the ruins of the fabled city of Kechenkel on Jergan IV, long considered nothing more than a myth.
